Did you know the carbon footprint of eating a steak is about the same as driving a gas guzzler for 70K (source New Scientist). You've reminded me to take those steaks out of the freezer for tonight - thanks! Did you know that the sale of organic food has dropped from around £100m a month to £81m a month? Riverford Farm has gone from selling 85% British to 78% because people are now growing their own more mundane foods and looking for the more exotic things at organic farm shops. In the end, what matters to people is how far their money will stretch on any given day, however much they really do want to worry about ice floes melting. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon (new website online) |

It borders a lane and it's like a jewel box. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon (new website online) |

Some niggardly customer bought a quarter of a cucurbit - not sure if it qualifies as a squash or as a pumpkin - leaving the organic stallholder (*may* apply to the stallholder herself, but is meant to refer to the produce...) with half a cuwossname and a quater of same. I bought the odd quarter on a whim, and was very pleased I did. The cuwossname was a sort of flattish tangerine shape, about the size of a curling-stone, green and stripey, with orange flesh. The cooked sqampkin had the consistency of cooked chestnut, and more flavour than i expected. Seeds saved and dried for next year, when I shall grow fewer marrows... -- Rusty Direct reply to: horrid dot squeak snailything zetnet point co period uk Separator in search of a sig |
