Remember Mama liked the Roses.

The first 'music revolution' I remember was Bill Hailey and the Comets.
My grandmother sat there, shaking her head and saying "It'll never
catch on" while she and grandpa (and my parents) preferred Victor
Sylvester, Pearl and Teddy Carr and Come Dancing!

That sounds all too familiar )

Of course, I am far too young to know what you are both talking about
and in any case I have a pressing problem with my nose growing very
quickly at present
(is 'growing' on topic?)

It;s like people still requesting Beatles songs on Radio 2.
Imagine anybody in their right minds, other than some parents, requesting
hits
from 1909 in 1959.

otherwise this ng could join in the great 75 years memorial bash

maybe we still can: design an Elvis Bed

OK, guitar-shaped for sure......

Funny but I could never see, or hear, what the fuss was all about. Thought
his "singing" was boring, his gyrations pathetically childish even and it
hasn't improved with time.

Oh. I wouldn't agree there. He had a good voice although some of his
later stuff was dreadful.

I've grown to appreciate his later stuff more and more

so much so that, apart from that first song (something about "Train
Arri-ive")
I dislike almost all his 50's oeuvre - not least because you can trace a
direct link
between it and contemporary 'country'
