Alternative garden decoration
Our back garden is currently showing a tasteful arrangement of frosted discs
ransomly scattered across the lawn. Eye catching, but the result of the regular emptying of the ice out of the birds' water bowl and refilling from the water butt. Given that the temperature is not going much above freezing for the next few days this may become a major feature. I've just added som High Energy Mixture to the feeders, but there doesn't seeem to be much bird activity at the moment. Cheers Dave R -- No plan survives contact with the enemy. Cheers Dave R I squasheda fat ball on the ground for the blackbird yesterday as well as scattering seeds. I have to throw them in the 'rockery' else the pigeons find them too easy to get. (There's a lot of privet twigs and pigeons don't like walking on them) --http://www.voucherfreebies.co.uk- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Yesterday when I was moving boxes undercover, I had just taken a stack inside, I came out and there hanging from one of our feeders was our Sparrow Hawk, about 15 ft from me.It had hold of a small bird inside the feeder and wasn't bothered by me. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...4u2/Feeder.jpg I wish I had had my camera with me. I said "What do you think you are doing?" It ignorted me, then when I said "Get off" it let go and flew about 6 ft into the tree the feeders are fastened to and just sat there looking at me for a couple of minutes then flew off,I thought when I first did the feeders that they would protect the small birds, but it looks as if he has learned to grab them inside whilst still flying. This probably accounts for the fall of in numbers of birds using our feeders David @ the wet end of Swansea Bay where the rain is back with a vengance. |

Your ice discs may look attractive, but they might burn the grass.
