Default Laying a lawn in November???

Hi Guys.
I'm a TOTAL newbie with my 1st ever lawn - It's a mess (even I know that).
A local gardener is offering to lay new turf, cheap, while business is quiet - BUT - is laying a lawn in November a good idea? I naively think it should be done in spring, otherwise the grass will die. Am I right?
