Do they serve bacon butties at the Funny Farm? Shan't go otherwise, so
there! Wibble wibble.

The men in white coats will accompany you. Resistance is pointless.

Nah. Shan't go. I'll bribe them with bacon butties. They're irresistible.

The butties or the men in white coats?

I'll leave you guessing. It'll drive you mad, heh heh :~)))!

That's no way to talk to Louis XIV, Josephine.

I may be mad, but I don't talk to dead kings ... and I'm not sure
Josephine is a good name for a large, hairy spider. Venus, possibly:~).

I've just seen a newspaper ad for a variety called Swift which claims to
give the earliest crop. I've never grown them so am just passing on the
info.

Swift vies with Rocket to be the earliest of earlies.

How is it for flavour, Bob? We'll be off to Tuckers soon!

Never grown them but my books say...

Swift.. Suitable for showing. Short foliage makes this the best variety for
growing under polythene. Good disease resistance. Yield slightly higher than
usual. Oval shape, white skin, waxy texture, lemon coloured flesh. Use as
new potatoes.

Rocket... Producing huge crops of uniform, attractive white tubers. Has
partial resistance to white eelworm and full resistance to yellow. Good all
round cooking qualities. Exceptionally high yield. Round shape, white skin,
waxy texture, white flesh. Uses boil, bake, chip and roast. (find that hard
to believe unless they are left in the ground to mature)

Seems to suggest Rocket is the better potato, but as I've said before, with
potatoes it all depends on your soil. International Kidney/Jersey Royals
being a prize example of that.

I've just looked up what the potatoes I popped in this year, cos I knew one
was either Rocket or Swift.
http://www.cight.com/allotment/archives/000360.html

* annabel
* rocket
* charlotte
* lady christl
* kestrel
* orla
* maris piper
* king edward

Now we were a little naughty with the digging up, and the rocket were left
in a /lot/ longer than they should have been. But of all of them, it was
the Rocket that went mushy and yuck.

I simply love the way that so many threads on this newsgroup/forum ignore
the ""instruction"" to snip :-))

Even by those who should know better.

Mike

Thank you for the good wishes for the New Year.
