Lovely, Sacha! We have relatives in Essex, so it's a definite
possibility. Must start dropping hints.

The site gives details of open days but also says they'll open for
groups. I just hope we can get there one day.

You could do that and Sourfend in the same day. :-)

If you can manage an Essex trip, you will be able to see RHS Hyde Hall
among others. You simply must see Beth Chatto's garden:

It's ages since we went there, but definitely worth a visit if you're in
the area.

We went to Beth Chatto's garden some years ago but it would certainly
bear another visit. It was enchanting.

I would bother unless you want to spend a couple of hours on the A127
getting in to see a second rate sea-side town with a high street full of
charity shops and pawnbrokers. And then spend another 2 hours on the
A127 getting out again.

They both look lovely, but if you're making a trip to Essex then you should
also try and fit in the Gibberd Garden, it's wonderful.

It sounds wonderful and I wonder why it's not better known. Thank you
for that tip and it goes on the list.
