Tractor Lawnmower _ Husqvarna any thoughts?
Finally going to bite the buller and purchase a garden tractor but which
one? I have been offered a one season old one for £1500 negotiable. It is a Husqvarna CTH135. Has anyone any personal experience of this brand as far as tractor lawnmowers go? Or any other information on what to buy and what to avoid? I have about an acre to acre and a half to cut 75% lawn the rest longer grass just to be kept tidy. TIA |

Not as far as tractor-mowers go, but the make is a good one and their brush-cutters are superb. Not sure if this helps! -- Derek Turner Outlook Express is worth precisely what you paid for it. |

Don't know anything about Husqvarna thing but general advice would be to get one with as big an engine as you can. I think my old man's current one is a Snapper - its by far the best because its got the biggest engine of all of the ones he's had - if memory serves its a 16Hp twin cylinder Briggs & Stratton. He is mowing a similar (maybe slightly larger) area. |

Hello i'll Funny, just had this thread in uk.d-i-y - pop over there for more info. ilgmc Finally going to bite the buller and purchase a garden ilgmc tractor but which one? TIA I have the Husqy LT120. 900ukp + VAT (~1100) two months ago from Mole Valley Farmer brand new. A perfectly adequate mower for up to 3 or 4 acres, Ok collection, well built. Very happy with it. Prices vary HUGELY. Markup is widely variable and dealers follow the car method of salesmanship (ie, weigh your wallet on entering then price accordingly). MVF is the cheapest place I could find. Next cheapest, for an equivalent non-Husqy make was 1700, and that was after haggling for a hundred quid off for self collection. I don't know the CTH135 so can't tell you if it's good value, but there are cheaper NEW (with guarantee) ride-ons available. Google is a good friend when comparing models and there seem to be reasonable online shops once you've picked a model. JR If it has a blower/sucker type arrangement for collecting JR the clippings, then give it a wide berth. Buy one with a JR powered sweeper collector. While those are better, a decently designed self-collector (ignore any salesman hype that rear is better than side, it's all BS) is perfectly adequate. In damp grass a sweeper will easily outperform a passive collector, but purists will say you shouldn't be cutting then anyway... Plus you're looking at about an extra grand to have a sweeper. Not just the extra complexity, but it needs a bigger engine and more maintenance too. And another thing - they're significantly longer than a passive collector which is a major issue if you've got corners on your lawn. They also have a habit of not picking up stuff when you're cornering tightly, since they stick out the back and miss the inside line. Different things for different needs - please don't say "give it a wide berth" when it may suit a particular garden more. -- Simon Avery, Dartmoor, UK Ý http://www.digdilem.org/ |

I am quoting a couple of friends who have them and rue the day they bought them because they have to spend hours unclogging them.
