The trouble with people who are perfect is that they tend to be a right pain
in the bum for the rest of us.

I wish you well with your business Tony... you did everything correctly re
the ADVERT as far as I can see.

oh dear Warwick, seems you don't understand the 'charter' as far as
abuse is concerned..... and perhaps you could use your own wit in your
put-downs next time, instead of stealing it from eigthies sit-coms??

eighties sitcoms? That came from the long standing since the late
seventies BBS and usenet insult file (currently on version 6).

http://www.guymacon.com/FUN/INSULT/

The clue comment is a fairly widely used snippet, feed it into google
and there're pages of quotations of it.

I didn't feel the need to use the entire insult file since it'd
seriously offend outside of a full silly flamewar where the contenders
know each other.

Dear AlReynolds
I disagree. My advert was four lines long on the form when I typed it
out,My original message was posted on or around the 28th June and was
a genuine attempt to find out what people thought of the website. Out
of nearly 2000 hits, only about six were critical and none but you and
Mike were abusive. The others were quite constructive in their
criticisms. I thought gardeners were friendly people but I am
mistaken.
I am obviously quite new to this newsgroup business, but your reaction
is more like road rage.

Dear Tony,

Perhaps you should check who sent which message.
I believe Warwick was the one who castigated you.
I merely laughed at his mode of castigation.
So leave me out of your argument.

I just thought I'd like to say that I thought Tony's Caterpillar
Fountains website was pretty good - although I realise that liking a
particular website is a matter of personal taste - one man's meat etc.
Anyway, it was good enough to persuade me to buy a fountain (the
prices being less than half apparently similar ones in my local garden
centre also helped a bit!)It was delivered very promptly, was easy to
install, and I'm absolutely delighted with it - so much so that I'm
thinking seriously about getting one of the larger ones. The
workmanship is excellent, and the quality of materials much better
than in other fountains I had looked at before. If you are looking for
a water feature, I'd give these a serious look - and no, I'm not
Tony's cousin!

I would like to thank my customers Pip Walters and Big Bill Turville
for their support during the furore caused by my advertisement. I
would also like to thank Anne for her very kind comments. I have
already privately apologised to Al for my incorrectly attributing
Warwick's flaming to him and again I thank him for his gracious
acceptance of my apology.
Perversely I have to thank Warwick for his comments as it has in fact
taught me a hard lesson although his manner of giving the lesson was,
I still feel, uncalled for.
In future I will restrict my posts to assisting other gardeners in any
field that I think that I am reasonably experienced i.e. ponds and
vegetables. I reserve the right to sign off with my name and website.
I will of course be placing an advert in the second week in
September!!!

How do you know Bill's size or nickname, if he's just an internet
customer of your website? He didn't mention either in his post here; and
he hasn't any other posting history in usenet.

Gosh! You don't think that Bill Turville is really....? Naah, it
couldn't be! But yet the path on their messages is exactly the
same........

Gee, don't things get out of proportion in the middle of the night when
you can't sleep?

(Turville, by the way, is a village near here and is where they shoot
the Vicar of Dibley.)
