Why won't my Peppers ripen?
Since first writing this message, a few of the peppers have started to
ripen. However, they are still quite slow. Colin Colin ----- (Sorry - no direct email. Please reply via the newsgroup) |

The suspense is almost unbearable! Ripening in an irregular stripe down the sunward side, just like the dusty peppers you see in Mediterranean markets. Cheers Dave R |

Cheers Dave R This year Ive grown Cayenne, sweet something or other and the Banana peppers. Lots of fruit on the Banana bushes(about 3-4' high) but staying resolutly green EXCEPT for one plant that has long tapering glossy fruit that are a pale yellow - dont know how that got in there. The sweet peppers have been crap - most of the fruit got blossom end rot, dont know why as its never happened before. The Cayenne plants have been very prolific, lots of long thin dark green fruits but none showing any sign of red. Hmmm I thought, I wonder how strong these are and took one off and took a tentative nibble at the end - no reaction. Disappointed I took a bigger bite - BIIIG mistake, my lips felt like they had swollen to twice their size,my eyes were watering and my mouth was numb for an hour after. Three days later I noticed that the half eaten chili, which Id dropped in my rush to get a bucket of water, had turned a bright red so I think I may harvest them soon and let them ripen off the plant. Any suggestions as to what I can do with more chillis than I will be able to use within the next year? Mark |
