manure v. compost
The message
from LizR contains these words: Give your cabbages some lime. How, please? Spread lime on ground, dig in. If bought from a garden supplier it should have instructions with it. Otherwise, just scatter the powder so that you can still see what's underneath. For cabbage and most of its family, you can't overlime. Cauliflowers will be happy with their feet in neat muck though. -- Rusty http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/tqt.htm horrid·squeak snailything zetnet·co·uk exchange d.p. with p to reply. |

manure v. compost
The message
from (Alastair) contains these words: My father always said that putting manure down would result in an allotment full of weeds. No idea if this is true or not. Anyone got an opinion? True, but when hoed in they add to the soil structure..... -- Rusty http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/tqt.htm horrid·squeak snailything zetnet·co·uk exchange d.p. with p to reply. |
