I absolutely agree with Janet. The program was nothing more than an excitement focused cocktail party for a bunch of TV personalities and the current "in" crowd amongst to-days fashionable Hardcore Landscape merchants, - but then that's all it has been for at least the last decade. To believe that to-day's Chelsea Show has anything to do with gardening is to live in cuckoo land. No serious gardener would dream of watching this raucous over the top collection of superlative junkies in the hope of finding anything remotely apposite to their gardening interests. They would getas much out of "Come Dancing", - where at least music is appropriate. TV producers,
in spite of their time honoured denials, are interested in one thing and one thing only, - competition with their peers in the matter of ratings. Their future employment depends on this.
They have a simplistic formula for achieving this, - Faces, faces, faces, - noise, - colour, - excitement, (however achieved), - any kind of gimmickry, - second by second change and movement.
They invariably trash every possibly interesting program by their inability to break out of this straight jacket. Did you notice how Monty and Carol et al, in last weeks gardening show, were being encouraged to "hot it up" with the
superlatives. I don't give a monkeys what they think of a plant only whether I like it.
They will never understand why Geoff Hamilton was so popular.
