Default [IBC] techniques of aerial roots ficus

Hi All,
Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving. If anybody find offended by hearing
others celebrate Thanksgiving then it is your problem because you are in
America ! This is American's thing. I had been in many places in different
countries but did not expect them to stop doing things because of my
presence. Sorry ! I got a little irritation of the offended thing ?

I like to hear from anyone who have experiences/ techniques on how to
encourage aerial roots on ficus. I already knew that provide them with
their optimum enviroment(humidity and heat) is the important ingredient but
i am sure you guys must have a technique of encourage more aerial roots on
those ficus.
Thank you in advance for all responses and I hope you all are going to
celerate a great Chrismas !

I'm not offended and I don't find it offensive, so it's not my problem
either, but...

because you are in America !

.... in fact I'm NOT in America. This is Internet, man!

This is American's thing.

It started off as an American thing, but it grew since then. Now it's a
World (Wide Web) thing. ;-)

Good questions.
I use about four times the diameter of the trunk for the moss bundle.
Wrap the moss firmly but not very tight.
Keep the moss on for months. You want to see lots of roots in the plastic
but you need to give the roots time to grow into the moss and then into the
ground. If you pull the plastic off before the roots are in the ground they
will dry out and never make it into the ground.
Once you are sure that they are in the ground you can take the plastic off.
Do not rush to remove the moss. Do this gradually over 3-6 months as the
roots are very fragile and you can break them off.
You can do the technique any time of year but the roots grow best when the
tree is active.
Hope this helps.

One technique that works fairly well is to wrap the tree trunk and branches
with long fiber sphagnum moss, wrap with plastic and keep the moss wet. You
will get lots of aerials.

Mr Meislik,
Approximately!
How much of the long fibler sphagnum moss to use compare to the trunk or
branches size ?
Do you wrap with plastic loosely or not ?
Do you keep the sphagnum moss and plastic wrap until the newly aerial root
elongate to a certain length ?
What months can you use this technique ?

Sorry for too many questions !
Thank you for your already reponse.

Adam,
Sphagnum moss is a great anti-fungal.
It just won't grow in there.

I think the technique is called air layering. Believe it's in the
original Victory Garden tv show book, on indoor gardening, Jim Crockett,
author.

If I include the larger, lower branches in the "wrap", will they also
produce some aerial rooting?

try this one When the aerial roots start forming, take a drinking straw. cut
it so it goes from the point frim which the aerial root starts to the soil.
plce the root in the drinking straw. then place the other end in the soil.
eventually the root will reach the soil undisturbed. then just cut away the straw

Hello, Hung Le!

Try keeping the humidity very high while keeping the soil more to the dry
side. This should encourage aerial roots to sprout.

You can also try cutting the bark where you want the root to sprout, cover
with moist sphagnum moss, and keep the moss damp until the root sprouts.
You can then extend the moss toward the soil as the root grows, holding it
in place with twine or thread.
