Default 5th World Bonsai Convention

Do any of you have plans on attending the 5th World Bonsai Convention
in Washington DC this coming May? I'm going for sure, already made
reservations at the Hilton. I live about 2.5 hours away from the site
and might not have another chance like this for a long time.

I gather you are interested in carpooling. Which direction are you coming from?
I will be driving down Rte 81 from the north.

Anita and I will be there with bells on. We're going to be staying with my brother
and sister-in-law in Reston VA. Go, by all means. It sounds like a great event.

It's on my "to do" list right now. Problem is we're doing a
rather expensive visit to NYC with a grandchild a few weeks
earlier . . .

But I/we plan to be there.

your thoughtfulness is appreciated.

Thoughtfulness, h***! I'm trying to find someone to share the driving. I know I
can do it alone (7 hours from Syracuse), but at my age I would prefer not to. I
told the doctor he has to have me in shape for it. At least nowadays we have
cell phones.

Thinking of the convention, does anyone have any ideas about how IBC members might
identify themselves to one another? I understand that back in the mid-90's there
was another convention, I think in DC also, where IBC members wore a button. Come
to think of it, I think Anita has one. Can we do that again? I would recognize a
few people from their pictures on the gallery. And, is there any way to have a
get-together?

Hmmm. I still have two of the (different) buttons, and I have a
half dozen of the various IBC tee-shirts we made and sold "in
the old days."

I'm pretty sure Anita has (or had) a couple of IBC tees, too.
Y2K may be the last one we did. Haven't been able to drum up
interest since.

I'll be in the bar, which is the traditional place for an IBC
get-together -- usually at 5 p.m. ;-)

We have registered as well.
True to tradition the meeting place should be the hotel bar. It is only a
question of the day and the exact time.
As for the identification badge, I do have the one passed out in Toronto at
BCI '97.

We need Jim Lewis to coordinate the meeting time and Reiner Goebel to buy
the first round of beverages. :-)

Cheers.

Well, Reiner doesn't read the list any more, so you'll have to
let him know, somehow -- unless you want to surprise him? ;-)

We could start out at 5 p.m. in the downstairs hotel bar on the
first night of the event, and see where it goes from there (we
may want to adjourn to another location). But in MY experience,
we have too much "official IBC business" to discuss to finish it
in one meeting.
