HI and Merry Christmas to all!!

I got a small Blueberry plant from a garden center that was closing in
Sept. Its in a 6" pot and it was about a foot tall with a few berries
on it when I got it. I live on the line between 5-6 St Louis area
and I know I need to acidify (is that the right word??) the soil so I
got some aluminum sulfate but I never did anything with this guy.
Should I plant it now or WHEN???

Now is not the time to plant it, wait till the spring. keep it in a very
cool place.(such as a garage. put the pot into a larger one with more soil
around it .cover the soil with straw or something and around the sides of
the pot) pick off the berries and plant it next spring. with a shovel full
of peat moss in the hole. ( dig a hole twice the height and 1 1/2 times the
width )don't add lime around this plant.

another thing is that you will need a different blueberry plant ( I am
assuming it is highbush plant) for them to pollinated off each other. ( I
have patroit highbush and Jersary) but any two different ones will do.

feritize 3 times during the growing season. ( compost, chicken droppings
whatever just no lime) and pick off all blooms for 3 years~! you will want
all the energy to go into the ground and for the plant to grow large. and
you will have a huge supply of blueberries.

highbush blueberry can grow in a even 3 b zone. so you are quite safe

don't forget to use peat moss. you won't need anything in the soil (and in
fact it is better if you don't add to your soil with anything else when you
first plant it) and make sure it gets plenty of water and full sun

Lynn is correct, but I would like to add the following. I would have my
soil tested before adding anything to it. Blueberries like a pH of about
4.5 - 5.0. They grow in Arkansas at 6.0. They grow wild in Alaska and
Northern Michigan. In my yard here in NW Kansas the soil is nearly neutral
(6.9 - 7.2). Once you find out what your is, you will have a place to
start.

They sell azalea additive for dropping the pH. Hopefully yours will already
be a pH of 6 or lower and you wont have to do that much.

Hi!! I have several blueberry plants along the fron of my house like a hedge. I put pine needles around them to give them the acid that they like. Mine seem to love it. A lot of people will rake up their pine needles and put them in bags so I can get an abundance of them.
I live in NE Arkansas and they grow great here.

Where have you kept the plant since it was bought? Outside? In the garage?
Under a carport?

I/d keep it outside, in a sunny, sheltered location out of the wind. Throw
some pine or leaf mulch up and around the pot to keep the soil from drying.
Plant it when the average daytime temperature is around 50°F or if you see
the plant beginning to leaf-out. Once it/s in the ground and leafing-out,
I/d give it a dose of fish emulsion every week. Avoid using water that/s
been softened.
