I've read where I should remove the first (sometimes second) year
blooms on newly planted two year old blueberry plants. Is this really
necessary? They are in full bloom, and I would really hate to remove
the blooms. But, if it's best, then I will do so.

If the plant is vigrous and healthy I personally don't see the reason for
it. People are incouraged to cut off the blooms to direct the plants
attention and engery in foliage and root production instead of fruit
production. As long as the shrub looks healthy and you have a good
nutritional supplement (fertilizer) to give it.... you should do fine.

If you are that anal compulsive, you may as well get ready for the next full
moon so you can do the fertility dance on your front yard completely naked.
If you believe strong enough, that will ensure a good crop this season. At
least that's what you can tell the judge after the cops take you away and
lock you up!!! Do you Yahoo?

I leave my plants alone and have good results. Also, please remember
that a blueberry bush does not come into full production until about its
sixth year. So don't think that you have done anything wrong when your
yields are low. Good luck.

Put your energy into a good mulch and weed control.
Maybe even go hi tech and do a soil test.
And get the pH down.
