Nice little plant, just the same. Look at those fat healthy roots! And the
second pic shows off the frilly lip to perfection.

Its one of my favs, too. It grew well for me on the outside of a clay pot.
Go figure. Then scale got it and pfft! gone. I gotta get me another one

I'm sure the bugs have been eyeing off those succulent roots, Dave. I have a
mealy bug attack at present. The paphs and phals have been particularly
targeted. Have been busy with the scale gun - claims to harm mealy bugs.

Apropos of nothing, and I don't think Aussies can play, but try this for US
regionalisms, *G*. I was 58% Dixie. Why that qualifies as 'barely' Dixie
I'll never know.

That's funny. Problem is, I tend to change my dialect depending on where I
am. I don't do this consciously. So I did a little comparison. Taking it
once and thinking in my New York/CT brain I came out a strong NYer. Then I
switched to my FL brain and came up in the 70's as a Suthnah, Shugah! The
truth is I'm somewhere in the middle.

Oh Kathy, I just love these quizzes, especially when I should be repotting
or cooking!
I came up with 61% Dixie & you barely is because:-
0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.

Hmmmm. Despite four questions I couldn't answer, I came up 66% - definitely
Dixie.

1. "Aunt" rhymes with "far", of course.
7. Addressing a group of people - what about "none of the above"?
17. Covering a house with toilet paper????????
20. Bug that rolls up - never heard of it, let alone do I have a name for it.

Dave, I sure if the shoe was on the other foot we'd never understand common
Australian/New Zealand regionalisms. The Aunt/Ant thing really does catch
my ear, however. Anyone saying Aunt sounds too, too posh to me, LOL! Like
they're putting on airs. But then I said the-ay-ter instead of thea-ter
until my college roomates needled me into line.

Kathy,

No surprises here - 83% Dixie - seeing as how I grew up in suburban
Birmingham Alabama.

A friend I used to work with hailed from Maine. He had been out here for some
15 years & still said "tomayto", where we say "tomarto". His comment was
similar to yours - despite how long he had been out here (and he had
unconsciously adopted many Aussie pronunciations), he felt he was trying to be
posh saying "tomarto", & consciously resisted it.

Amusingly, he was a redhead, and you know how they just don't show their age. I
thought he was about Ann's & my age, and when he spoke of his kids I assumed
they were about the same as ours. So, when we went to his place for dinner, we
took a box of chocolates for the "children", as well as wine for the adults.
Hello!! The youngest "child" of their three was 19, & all were out working! And
he was some 15 years older than us.

until my college roomates needled me into line.
As to 17) You haven't lived! Cleaning up the day after in the morning dew is

Oh dear! I'd hate to wake up the next day if there had been rain overnight.

And 20) see

Oh yeah! Guess what we call them? ...... Slaters!
