Sure, they're a natural. Place them in the high light areas with vandas and
you'll have great blossoms in spring before the vandas. They do like a dryish cool winter, so they don't have to stay with the vandas all year. Add some epiphytic gesneriads from Nematanthus, Codonanthes and Aeschanthus, some tillandsias esp Spanish Moss, other bromeliads and you begin to make a habitable jungle insead of a sterile greenhouse. I like to add in the crotons, Streletzias, a few bananas, spathiphyllums, anthuriums, exotic philodendron, etc. Where you are, that should be fairly easy. Work the whole thing together as an artwork. Epis will fit in nicely in hanging baskets. Some are more upright while others are sprawling or pendant. Place them appropriately. If you treat them the same as their neighboring orchids, then pot them in a very light mix. Mine do well in a paph mix without any soil. Gary "Weeble" wrote in message m... I do have shade cloth as the sun would burn them terribly. They like to be in small pots & seem happiest when root-bound. I have them potted them in a fast draining mix (Cym mix) with some acorn leaf mulching but will grow without the mulch. Cheers Wendy. |

Thanks for the help I know just where to put everything now. I don't
have a greenhouse (yet) but I have the perfect corner in the front living room. Just have to find a place for that pesky chair no one seems to like to sit in. I've got some good orchid mix left from when I re-potted a few things so everything should work out great. Shell "V_coerulea" wrote in message ... Sure, they're a natural. Thanks for the help I'm looking forward to getting my epiphyllums set
up. With two older plants hopefully they'll bloom this spring. I've added two taca's as well, a blcak and a white, so it should be a really interesting set up. Shell "Wendy" wrote in message ... They're in my 8 x 10' intermediate to warm GH with most of my orchids, planted in a fine bark/vermiculite/sand mix in 4" square plastic pots. I water and fertilize just as I do the potted orchids. All the cuttings rooted and have grown phenomenally well, and two have bloomed. The only problem is that they are taking up so much room, I may have to choose between them and a few orchids. Despite Rob's Rules, I haven't credit or energy enough to extend my little GH. Tom Walnut Creek, CA Nikon CP 5700 |

Wish I had a greenhouse of any size Since I posted last my A/C broke
down and all the plants have been moved into the computer room since it's the best room for light without extra heat and dryness. Not to mention my mom is tired of my plants taking over her dining room. I plan on rooting my epiphyllums in 3"x4" gladware containers since the only small pots I have are 2 1/2". I figure a few drainage holes and presto small rooting pots which will then sit in a larger plastic drip tray. BTW if you should decide to choose orchids over epis I have a nice spot for them Shell "tbell" wrote in message ... They are very hardy plants. You may get a little colder than my area & if there are frost warnings just cover with a sheet. Cheers Wendy |
