Algaefix
I have a simple question. Does anyone know if using Algaefix kills any
beneficial bacteria in your pond? I have searched using google and asked several people, but no one seems to know. Algaefix works great for algae, but I don't want to kill the bacteria started in my pond. Thanks, Habanero |

Thanks for your input Jan. I thought I read somewhere that Green Clean
algaecide didn't kill your bacteria. What do you mean about my water quality? pH is a little low ~6.8, TA, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia are perfect. "~ janj" wrote in message ... I don't know the answer to your question, but I don't trust things with such long names because I don't know what they mean. I also would like to note the things this chemical is used in. I hope this comes through without getting too confused. I use PondCare AlgaeFix once early each spring after the spring string
algae bloom and while my plants are beginning to come back to life and beginning to control the nutrients. I add a new bale of barley straw, use AlgaeFix, and bring my marginal plants up from the bottom of pond and put them on their benches. A month ago my pond was covered with sring algae when I did this and now my pond is completely clear of string algae. I have fish, frogs, snails, a snake and lots of plants and they seem to prosper with this procedure. -- Pardon my spam deterrent; send email to 18,000 gallon (17'x 47'x 2-4') lily pond garden in Zone 6 Cheers, Steve Henning in Reading, PA USA |

I listed my source to the page & paragraph, you find yours and we'll compare authors. ;-) What do you mean about my water quality? pH is a little low ~6.8, TA, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia are perfect. wrote: Thanks for the comments Jay. Do you know anything about the beneficial bacteria killing thing? I test water consistently for years and see no degradation w/ the recent use of AlgaeFix (started using last season). I dose at about 75% and the lilies and WH exhibit no negative signs. My ponds have sand filters and UV/ozone and have always had excellent water quality/clarity but AlgaeFix keeps the ones w/ rock/stone bottoms cleaner cause it inhibits the growth on the rocks which acts as a magnet for detritus. I like this product. jay Thu May 25, 2006 "Go Fig" wrote in message ... In article , ~ janj wrote: I'll have to check, but I think it was last fall's issue.
