To Janet and Spider
Janet,
I have been lurking here for a few weeks but have not posted before. This newsgroup seems to have its fair share of trolls and troublemakers, and I can understand that you have to deal with them firmly. I have to say though that you seem to have been very unfair to Spider in the 'gates' thread. From what I can see she has not joined in any of the trolling, and I have learned several things from her helpful replies to people in this group. In this particular thread she made what seems to be an honest mistake, and when you pointed this out she admitted it and apologised, even offering to leave the group. To apologise is a decent and honorable thing, but you seem to have turned it onto a crime. What more could she do? If you had responded to me like that I would be very offended. There is a lot of interesting discussion on this group, but I will not be taking part now because it is likely that at some time I might make a similar mistake and I do not want to be treated in the same way. I expect you will tell me to mind my own business, but I wanted Spider to know that at least one person understands how she feels! Marilyn from "Spider" contains these words: If you think I am a troll, you must say so and I will leave the group. (snip) I would be grateful for your response so that I may quit the group or continue within in it. First, you misinform a newbie. Then you claim innocent ignorance of this group's well publicised views on advertising. Then you feign ignorance of a longterm well-publicised troll agenda to do exactly that. Then you pretend that I control your presence on this group; which is another lie on the troll agenda here, and demand a reply, which is another troll habit. You're tying a noose round your own neck....just like Puce and Crowe. |

Listen to and contribute with those people you find helpful and ignore those you find disagreeable and provocative. Some individuals seem to get their entertainment from provoking disagreement but you will soon recognize them. Happy posting Andy |

I stopped browsing this group some time ago when I got heartily sick and tired of the infighting and bickering. It was rather like opening a gardening book and finding someone had stuck pages from a TV soap script inside. Just lately I had cause to refer to my archives from this group and I noted just how many knowledgeable and courteous posters had slowly, quietly drifted away. But this being the season of goodwill ( and all that kind of thing ) I thought I'd drop by and see whether the group had rediscovered the kind of atmosphere one used you get whenever Geoff Hamilton used to pop up on the TV with the latest edition of Gardener's World. And what do I find? If anything it looks like things have deteriorated even further. Ah well, best of luck etc. - maybe next year... Look at uk.gossip.royalty for example where she's been substantially driven out. Read the archives on Google, not a pretty sight. No-one creates dissent like the self-created Queen of newsnet. Please don't let the arguing put you off. There are still some knowledgable
posters here and as with all newsgrups you soon learn who to respect and who to ignore. Neil. "Marilyn" wrote in message ... Well, I don't know about your newsreader, but the majority of the urg messages mine sends me are about gardening, and very informatiove they can be, too. You should be aware that in some people's opinion Sacha poisons every newsgroup she ever joined. Look at uk.gossip.royalty for example where she's been substantially driven out. I don't imagine she and I would agree about everything in life (why on earth should we?), but, like all the regulars here, Sacha posts almost always about gardening topics. If there's anybody who's guilty of going off topic regularly, it's probably me; but I don't think even I stray for very long. I don't think it's too hard to guess the real ID of that poster. Not worth your time, frankly. (Unsnipped so comparisons may be made) As soon as i read that I recognised the 'style'. Sock-puppet if ever I saw one. -- Rusty Rusty as a matter of interest, I have seen that expression used quite a bit on another newsgroup where there is a court case on. Excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'sock-puppet'? Mike |

This account allows them to pose as a completely different user." More fool them with too much money to throw away :-)) Mike Who only posts as Mike just in case anyone has any funny ideas :-)) |

I maybe wrong, not often but it has been known. However if you look at the timings of the person that was telling Her Ladyship a few home truths, it was at a time that I was at a Lodge meeting :-)) I left home at 4.0pm and returned at about 10.30pm :-)) Mike Who as I said, doesn't knowingly tell lies and certainly doesn't post as anything else :-)) Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :-)) |

Yes, it is unfair to attack Sacha in this manner and Mike is quite right to point out that we don't always have to agree on everything with all posters. However, look at the well informed advice you get from Sacha; I, for one, would be considerably worse off without it. Isn't it time, that some posters realise that disagreements often break out between gardening neighbours - this is not abnormal and is all part of life. It's time to leave Sacha alone, I tired and bored by ignorant put downs entwined in sarcasm; it is not amusing or clever, my 12 year old grandson would not resort to such stupid behaviour. Rock on Sacha I haven't been following this thread but saw your name Judith and read your post. I hope no-one thinks it's me. I know Sacha and I don't get on and I avoid her but I wouldn't start a campaign of attack. Isn't there a way of telling the identity of a poster? Someone once told us how to do it (perhaps you remember the long-ago days on demon-newuser?) but I couldn't do it now. Perhaps someone here will enlighten us. -- June Hughes |
