Plantsman has moved to France but the address on the order form on his website is still Devon. Anybody know what his real address is? I'm assuming you mean Guy Sissons? Can't help you but wait a while. He'll get a new web site up and running I'm sure. Guy fizzes with energy and purpose so just give him a little time. Thanks, Sacha. Do you know roughly which part of France he has moved to? The Bordeaux area. I can't say anything more specific than that, I'm afraid. And the people he's sold his Devon house to aren't carrying on his nursery business, AFAIK, so I don't think there's any way of finding them to track him down, either. From what I recall, he was leaving here in October or thereabouts and had ordered a whole lot of new glass, so I imagine he'll have been immensely busy setting all that up, getting through Christmas, settling their children into new schools etc. etc. We're not expecting to hear from him but if we do, I'll let you know. -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon ) |

Sacha His site http://www.plantsman.com/ says: WE UNDER CONTRUCTION IN OUR NEW LOCATION IN FRANCE The new glasshouse which went up here in December (above). It will be a tropical display house open to the public with a small section for propagation. The next 4-8 weeks will see all the services and heating, irrigation and car park going in. |

In the meantime my friend in France has ordered from elsewhere. Ordered what? Exotic climbing plants he can only get in England? That is Guy's speciality and AFAIK, that is what he will be doing in France. Add horse radish, hanging lobelia to seeds and plants you can't buy in France. Obviously, I'm not going to go into someone else's private business and their circumstances but this has not been just a question of moving from one nursery in Devon to another in France in one fluid operation, accomplished in a couple of weeks. It is inevitable that it will take him some time to get his business up and running with an appropriate web site. If people can't wait for exceptional plants from a dedicated plantsman, that's a shame for them, IMO. And Suttons, T&M etc. do the seeds you mention - why don't people order from them if they're desperate for Lobelia (which will turn to hay in the heat of Bordeaux if left un-watered for one day)? The French have horseradish, though perhaps they don't use it as much as we do. It's called raifort and really cannot be impossible to find in France. I don't *know* what Guy will be selling in France, of course, but I doubt it will be Lobelia and Horseradish. Certainly, he did not sell such things before so perhaps neither you nor your French friend have ever looked at his earlier web site? -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon ) |
