4. Who is trolling here?

b. Alan J Holmes

He is a fairly cautious troll, since he has a university account
) and they are often more responsible than commercial
ISPs. However, he still manages to post a great deal of abuse to both
regulars and advertisers on this newsgroup. He specialises in telling
lies about what people have done or said in the past, in the hope that
they will rise to the bait and post corrections.

He is still emailing wanna****s to female regulars. If you are a female
and get such an email, you are advised to inform him you do not want to
hear further from him. Keep a copy of your message. Then, when he
refuses to take a hint, you will have grounds to complain about him to
his provider.

A complaint has been made to his provider about him posting private
email to the newsgroup, but it is not yet known whether they will take
action against him.

I've never heard of Alan J Holmes. Alan Holmes, who several people think is
a troll, is not. It's a pity if his name is taken in vain.

Or simply ignore it. Block that sender.

I certainly do...

I'm lost, Anne. Do you mean you think it's a member of this group hiding

But not everyone does know, I suspect, and someone has to point out that the

I don't know, Sacha, but I think it's questionable, to say the least, when
someone posts from an anonymous address to make accusations against one of
our regular posters...who's the troll, in this case?

Good question. Just what we need - another troublemaker. Any ideas? We
have some serious computer experts here so perhaps they can track it down.

Both Alan and Holmes are reasonably common names. I have twice in my life found
myself sharing a doctors surgery list with someone who has the same first name
and surname as me. Alan J Holmes appears to be posting genuinly from brunel
university and it is difficult to imagine getting such an account unless you
were a student or member of staff there.

OHHh... please Alan. Once in your life, and since I've known you in
Demon Local in the mid 90s, would you please tell everybody who is
doing this to you, why and how long it has been?! It is ridiculous and
futile now to pretend you don't know. Go on Alan, tell us why you keep
saying you've killfiled me, 'la puke', tell them that it's nothing
remotely associated with urg, but in fact it is associated with over
15 years ago in Demon Local.

There's some hypocrites on usenet, all shapes and sizes in fact, but
I'd give you the gold medal for it, I would. You have no shame in
insulting me, out the blue and without any escuses, and you do this
knowing who I am after so many years. And please don't you start
blaming your memory because I've concluded long ago that it's a
conscience you need, not a doctor.
