Default When to remove mulch (from bulbs)?

Hi

In automn I bought some Narcissus (Daffodils) and Puschkinia and on
the packs it said to mulch so I did with shredded bark.

Both types of flowers are supposed to flower in march-april so I am
wondering when to remove the mulch?

I am reading all these great stories about crocuses and tulips coming
up early this year so I am wondering if the bulbs I planted need more
light (quite early on)?

Thanks

How deep is the mulch?

I'd say leave it, but if it's waist deep they may have a problem. Otherwise
just leave it, the bulbs will do what they feel is right at the time they
feel it's right.

Ah ok thanks for your answers.

I was presuming that as mulching stops weeds it would also hinder
bulbs.
That's great news, it will save me doing extra work.

Often, they're easier to pull out when they've come through mulch. *Bulbs

Yes it's because of the cold. On the packs it says "gegen Frost
abdecken" which means "mulch against frost".

I live in Zurich (eastern part of Switzerland) so if I remember
correctly that's 2 climate zones colder than most of the UK. Also I
got the bulbs from Aldi so I suppose the instructions must be mainly
for Germany. I think some parts of Germany get even colder than
Zurich.

But like you say I am not sure if it is really useful. I got some
Crocuses in another shop and there is no mention of mulching on the
pack. But better be safe than sorry ;-)

All is now revealed - I've never gardened further north - or colder - than
Surrey!!

Indeed and I'm sure they'll pop their heads through in due course. Here,
it's very mild for January - today was 9C - and the daffs which grow on top
of the Devon hedges are already up and in bud. Others in more sheltered
spots are flowering and snowdrops are coming out like a very welcome sort of
rash.
I imagine you get the pleasure of visiting the ski areas once the snow has
melted and seeing the fantastic wild flowers that emerge then.

Playing with the translation widget on my Mac from German to English, it
says abdecken is to 'take off' but if you go from German into French it says
'courvrir' = (to cover).
From English to German 'take off' translates as "entfernen Sie sich" while
'cover' becomes 'Abdeckung'.
Translation errors on the Mac or on the part of the bulb suppliers? Phew!

It can mean a lot of things and their opposite ;-) :

I am no german specialist but in a garden context I am pretty sure
"abdecken" means "to mulch". Packs of mulch are called
"Abdeckmaterial".
