Thanks David. I heard it on Classic fm and must admit I didn't pay 100%
attention as to which ferries it was referring to.

Yesterday was odd. A new Vicar was being installed (is that the right word)
in the local church next door to my daughter and son in law's house. They
were away for the weekend and the church asked if the visiting vicars etc
cold robe up in their main hall as there would not be sufficient room at the
church for everybody. (It's only a small village church), so we went to look
after them all. 2.00 pm they were coming. All the morning ........ stair
rods. Water pouring down the drive and down the steps near the swimming
pool. By 2.00pm all dried and sun shining as they processed out down the
drive and into the lane to go next door to the church.

When they came back, they all assembled again in the main hall I said, 'Now
listen you lot, this morning stair rods. This afternoon brilliant sunshine.
Who did you speak to to arrange that?' Someone said "The Bishop of
Portsmouth" (He was there) someone else said "We have friends in 'high'
places"

and today? Worse than yesterday!!

The main hall, known as 'the barn', at Christmas

It goes without saying that the hovercraft will be suspended!

I was going to block in a window in an outhouse this morning. The wind
blows the blocks straight out again! Bah!

I found it odd that after some years in service the High Speed ferry
Discovery, was moved from the Harwich Hoek route to the Irish Sea,
because the North Sea was too rough for it. We used it a lot of times
before they moved it. We weren't on it the day they forgot to strap
down a truck containing 50 tons of fish. When the ferry accelerated as
it left the Hoek of Holland, the truck went out through the rear doors
taking the three cars and the doors with it.

The fish wanted to go home? ;-}

Sorry about that David. However and in brief, a couple of companies, Red
Funnel and Wightlink hold us at ransom to use them to get to England. The
ferry in question is a massive 'thing' which has ridden roughshod over
everybody in the interest of 'The Back Pocket'. The subscribers of this
newsgroup in business will know what I mean. These massive ferries are
liable to windage. For the benefit of those who only have experience of
their bath water, 'windage' can be explained as the effect of the wind on
the side of a high sided vessel. Consequently, these new ferries going into
and out of the beautiful and twisting entrance to Lymington, have problems
with the possibility of being blown onto the mud flats. It is therefore a
case of 'Sod you Jack. we are ceasing the ferries. WAIT'

That said, the Isle of Wight is worth dropping five ranks in the Civil
Service to return to. The irony is, that in the late 80's when was employed
in shipbuilding, 'I' was involved in the design of Red Funnel Ferries :-(((

I have simplified these nautical and technical matters because I know there
are those who have salt in their blood, ....... so we have been informed
;-((

Why is everybody so eager to rush into winter? They complain they've had no summer (it's
not been THAT bad) and one bit of wind and rain and it's winter!

Enjoy the benefits of Autumn when it really does arrive in 2 weeks' time. There was a
beautiful mist over the water meadows a few days ago and sunshine which lifted my spirits
no end.

Kath it's not a case of being eager to rush into Winter. Winter has rushed
into us ;-))

Doesn't bother me. I know that we have no control over the weather and we
are going to get what we are going to get, whether we like it or not ;-))

Autumn will follow Summer and Winter will follow Autumn. It has to my
certain knowledge for over 70 years, why should it change?
