Very good, but it is February 2012 :-)

Well the RHS are not the most dynamic of charities. However It was my fault
for getting the years mixed up and posting an old article.

Bob, this is compiled from queries received by the RHS from the public so
that it in no way represents what we see as the major pests - only pests
that we don't recognise! It is a 'classic' in the mis-interpretation of
statistics.

Yes I appreciate that only too well but it does tend to show unusual/new
stuff that is worsening. Stuff that we as gardeners need to look out for.
It's not many years ago I mentioned Leek Moth on here and got blank looks
and now it's spread almost everywhere.

When I read the list I wondered how it was compiled as the only ones
on it that I've seen round here are slugs and lily beetles; and even their
numbers don't amount to pest proportions.

Not necessarily. Top ten complaints, may not be the top ten commonest
pests.

Are not pigeons classed as a pest?

A load of drivel. Just there to fill up a bit of space in a lean
period.
Pests vary throughout the country.
The only pest in his list I see is slugs.
No mention of rabbits, pigeons, mice or moles, my chief pests.

No mention of cats either.

The trouble with "experts" is they can't see beyond their own field.
Experts are a waste of space.

Not necessarily that we don't recognise, maybe it's their damage that's not recognised, or maybe the questions are about how to control them.

The same is happening with Fuchsia Gall Mite. In gardens where Fuchsia Gall Mite Occurs it is devastating as is Lily Beetle if it attacks your plants. I have Lilies and Fuchsias in my garden and at the moment only have a problem with lily beetle. Observation and finger and thumb are the main attacks and do not forget that the lily beetle grub hides in it's own poo.
