For "domestic" use in the retail chain. Last I heard you could still get
real creosote for "commercial" use from farm suppliers etc. That may have
changed of course. B-(

I thought there was a full an on it as I was reading an article the
other week in which fruit growers were bemoaning the ban on creosote and
wondering what they could treat the poles they use for crop support
with, as creosote gave them a life of up to 40 years where as other
chemicals protected for less than 10 years.
This seems to be the most recent info I can find.

this will update this

It has gone up a lot in price from when I used to use it.

Creocote is just another crappy wood preservative, not like creosote.

If you want some, make it, its not hard.

Trade only!

Also available from Toolstation and Wilco.
It is oil-based so should be better than some of the other substitutes
which are virtually useless.

Scrap wood is put in a closed metal container with a pipe leading out. Its heated vigorously and the fumes condensed. What you get is creosote plus flammable gas, high in very toxic CO.

Its upto the individual to ensure they act safely & comply with the relevant laws, I'm only describing how its made.

I wonder what's the easiest suitable container.
