Default Drip feeding from water butt

Has anyone seen a drip feeder that can operate from a water butt? Is it
possible to use the "standard" fittings designed to run from the mains? If
the "standard" ones are used I guess that I would need some kind of adapter
to fit on the water butt tap.

This would make an ideal "water the greenhouse while on holiday" solution.

This is what I suggested to another contributor earlier, however as I
understand it the "normal" tap driven drip systems require a much higher
water pressure than is usually attained by a waterbutt. Unless you can hoist
the waterbutt onto your roof of course !!!

Duncan,
Thanks, I am still searching and have just forund thsi (pdf format you'll
need acrobat)
http://www.gardensystems.co.uk/pdf4.pdf

This seeems to use a hose with holes in it rather than a tap. As I only need
to water a dozen plants all in pots I'd rather have a tap like system.

One I bought recently just had standard Hozelock compatible tap thing in it
( I think it is a "Harcostar" )

Aside from using the tap on the Water butt to control the flow if you need
more piping & inline taps/valves etc then the best place to get them would
be your local Aquarium shop - they usually carry different sizes of hoses /
taps/inline valves/ T pieces etc which are not that expensive.

Sounds workable though.

etc) offer this. www.blackwall-ltd.com

Two Wests and Elliott offer a water butt irrigation system, which has
a number of drippers hanging off a small bore hose. They also have a
system working from a 2 gallon header tank, and say it can run at a
very low pressure. I seem to remembe that the individual drippers and
hose can be purchased separately. Have a look at :
http://www.twowests.co.uk/cgi-bin/tw...0/Catalog/1088
.... urgh, just seen how long that is, just check under watering from
http://www.twowests.co.uk/

I have no connections with TW+E other than as a customer. There paper
catalogue is much better than the website for browsing..

Thankyou *very* much for finding this - just what I need! I have a
sloping allotment with the usual gaggle of waterbutts and it's of
course a pain to water everything when it's dry. With this, I can just
fill up the butts and let it water the plot for me :-)
This is most useful because I have several large apples taking water
constantly from the soil and it would be great for the surface plants
to not have to fight!
