Default growing fir cones and horse chestnut?

The message
from "Franz Heymann" contains these words:

Some seeds need to be scorched on the outside.

Scorched? Around 200 deg C?

Nah. More than that. Some seeds from American (Continent, not US)
forests will only germinate after having been through a forest fire.

Clever mechanism to be sure that there will be enough light to sustain growth.

And Australian ones too. Went to Fraser Island over there and they
regularly do controlled burnings. Looks like it`s still going strong.
Some even need two burns!!!!

Whish reminds me I have some scots pine and birch seeds to plant soonish.

Huh! Birches come up like weeds in all my seed trays. Anyone want any?

(No need to answer that Chris - I've got some for you!)

I never said a word. G

I`d take a horse chestnut off someone tho. You simply have to grow them
from seed as everything else is too big.

Send address, I'll send conkers.

(Don't cut and paste address underneath, or use direct reply.)
