I noticed yesterday that my first snowdrop has dropped its bud (one of
my G. Elwesii potted ones) though most of the G. nivalis are barely
up. Eeek. Though the G. Elwesii are usually very early anyway, and
pots bring them forward.

Still, with luck I'll still have them in flower in March

~Nice item on snowdrops in the latest GW magazine.

The Galanthus Elwesii I mentioned are very wide leaved, with an X or
pair of blotches on the inner part. Leaves aren't pleated, though the
tips initially grow inside each other like hyacinths do.

Here's a nice example photo:

If anyone is really interested, I can dig out the URLs of loads of
specialist sites...

Bluebells are coming up before the crocus in my sheltered front garden in Glasgow! Or maybe my crocus bulbs have been dug up and eaten by that pesky squirrel...

Crocusses? Crocii?

Anyway, daffs about 4 - 5 inches high in the back garden too. Just cleared away the last of the dead vegetation from last year, pretty much everything seems to be sprouting and budding. Hooray! I'm looking forward to the growing season!

Helleborus orientalis. They got a foul battering from the hurricane.
