Default [IBC] First IBC wedding announcement!

Anita Hawkins and I are pleased to announce that we are engaged to be
married at my church here in Blooming Grove, New York on October 16,
2004 at 11 AM. This obviously is thrilling to both of us and our
families, and perhaps may be a surprise to denizens of the IBC. We'd be
delighted if anyone living within range, or planning to come out this
way to see the autumn colors in the Hudson Valley would be able to join
us for the celebration. We're fortunate that the church holds over 400
people although it is impossible to say how many will come. We will post
an invitation on the list and gallery - some of you with whom we are
closer will get paper invitations as well.

This has all happened because of the IBC and we will be forever grateful
for that. This all started when Anita won the auction for the collected
honeysuckle I auctioned off last spring. She was coming through the
area and stopped to pick it up instead of having me ship it.

(more details to come from Anita later today, including something
special for bonsai and suiseki enthusiasts!)

WOW! Blessings to you both.

Fortunatly and unfortunately, I leave for Maryland on
7-1 and can only do one trip east per year. I will be
staying with Nina. We will be looking to get into
bonsai trouble on Friday. Saturday and Sunday I will
be involved in attending a wedding, but Monday is a
day I could have free to meet others. I fly out late
on Tuesday from Dulles. I am shipping the hostess
plant to Nina instead of carrying it on the plane.

This will be a bonsai wedding! With our best trees, and our
bonsai friends who indirectly and unknowingly have helped to
make this happen. As a part of our celebration we are
inviting bonsai friends to bring a favorite tree or two with
them for an informal exhibition during the wedding
reception. A viewing stone is good too if you wish. For
those unable to attend, no doubt pictures will make it to
the gallery!

We'll need to know in advance who is bringing trees or
stones so we can plan on the right number of tables. Bring
your own display stands! It won't be one of those receptions
with loud obnoxious DJs, just lunch and a chance for
everyone to visit. We will have tables around the perimeter
of the room for trees and stones, and perhaps some will be
centerpieces as well.

So, we wonder if this will be the first IBC wedding. We
would be interested in finding out. We'll be honeymooning
in Maine and Arizona, and perhaps might see some of you out
there?

Thank you, everyone, and we hope to see some of you at the
wedding!

Anita (and Craig)

Congratulations to both of you!

Looks like Jackie and I both will be there (Jackie was in doubt
for a while, but she decided she can't stay away from seeing
both of you again. ;-)

We probably won't manage a tree, however; all of my pocket-sized
trees are gone. :-(

Now, we need some way to do a video broadcast of the wedding and
the trees for the IBC site -- at least after the fact. :-)

Congrats again to the IBC Pair!

wear shoes, though you probably will NOT get me into a necktie.)

Sounds good. We'll post an invitation on the list in a couple of months and ask
for an RSVP by the beginning of September, so we can get an idea of how many are
coming. We're extending an open invitation to IBC members to come.

We probably won't manage a tree, however; all of my pocket-sized

Hm. Maybe I can loan you one of mine. Yes, I do have trees under 2 feet in height
despite statements Anita has made on the list.

We're serious about the exhibition. We're hoping to see some really good trees and
stones there.

Now, we need some way to do a video broadcast of the wedding and
the trees for the IBC site -- at least after the fact. :-)

Streaming video--could be a possibility although I'd have no clue how to do it.
We'll definitely have someone taking pics of the church with the trees, although
very few during the service. Remember I'm a minister, and have had bad experiences
with wedding photographers. However, we'll have pics of the trees in the church
and formal pics we can post, along with pics from the reception and exhibition.

Congrats again to the IBC Pair!

Thanks everyone. We've been waiting a while to share this with the IBC, which has
a special significance for us because it's how we met!

That's what my older son says. I've got to rent a tux just to get him to wear a

It was a great news to hear that Craigh Cowing and Anita Howkins are engaged
and going to get married on October 16.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Infact I have just looking for Anita to show my new Acacia especially
designed for her. ( Look at Acacia - Greetings from Jakarta in the IBC main
galery ) Too bad that I could not ship the tree to USA as the wedding
present. We can call it a "BONSAI WEDDING"
Anyhow, Anita and Craigh once more Congratulations.

Congratulations! So, does this new arrangement mean a merger (marriage) of
Bonsai collections as well ;-) And are you going to share your grow room or
expand it?!

Best wishes,

Well, we'll still have our own trees, and in the future will undoubtedly have trees
that are ours. But she isn't all that thrilled with junipers (and I like
junipers) so she doesn't get to play with my junipers, that sort of thing. And, we
use somewhat different soil mixes so there will be endless domestic disagreements
over how much to water, etc. ;0} They'll all be in the same place, though. I
expanded my fenced-in area this year in anticipation. There are a lot of trees out
there now, but there will be many more later this year! The nice thing is that we
have somewhat different tastes in trees. I have a number that are just a bit
larger than shonin size, but I also have some in training that will be 3 ft. or so
in height when more developed. She doesn't have any trees that size. As a result
we'll have a good variety which will round out the collection!

Dear Jim:

Or maybe just someone to help water HIS )

Or maybe it's my complete collection of Bonsai Today back
issues??

It's not my cat (charming fellow, but no tail) or my dog
(rather large and rambunctious) or my horse (just WAY too
big!)... so... who knows...

Think I should hold out for a better offer? ))
