AH SUPPLY Enclosures

am a total townie with very few tools and apartment living means I cannot head into the Garage to tinker around. You can still do it at home... I built my own hood in 700ft^2 of space in Philadelphia using a drill and a mitre box/saw. If you do this, be sure to use popular or white pine or something soft. I stubbornly used Maple, neither the saw, mitre box, or my arm were in good condition after the project. Anyhow, box and saw are only $20 or so, handy to have around anyway, fits right into a closet. I constructed a fixture for my 29gal using the 2x55 bright kit, using AH's instructions for the enclosure. I have limited room at the back of my tank because I own an Oceanic brand tank. They have a bulky trim around the tank, this limited my filter choice. My first fixture (1x55) was made from pine. This material was rather soft and it dented easily. My second fixture (2x55) was made from red oak which was purchased and cut at Home Depot. All I had to do was drill a few pilot holes, and assemble..... Easy E-mail me for pics Neight Goetz |

AH SUPPLY Enclosures
I just got my AH 48" enclosure and (2) 2x55 kits. It is great. All I
used was our cordless drill, wire strippers (I actually used a craft knife instead), and pliers. I put it together within an hour. It is unbelievable. The plants are perking up, and the catfish have their Raybans on! The instructions worried me at first, no pictures, and I would have preferred more detail. However, once I got started, it was very easy. I wish I had gotten it a long time ago, rather than wasting all that time and money on DIY. |

AH SUPPLY Enclosures
I almost have to say "ditto" to Strgazr's post. I have 3 - 96 W fluorescents
fro AH Supply. I ordered them and was intimidated to set them up for a few months (also busy) , because the directions were a little scant on details. Once, I got started, however, the job was easy and fast (~ 90 mins). Just be warned that the reflective housing is quite sharp. I have the scars to prove it. Also the bulbs are a lot tougher than they look. Mine have survived a lot of banging about, although I don't recommend it. The setup is expensive, but you get what you pay for. The light blinds me whenever I open up the hood for feeding time. Regards, Richard Fee |
