Actually, I never once suggested landowners don't hire me. You're crazy
as hell. I'm as busy as I've ever been with several large parcel owning
clients that continue returning.

Go do something worthwhile like prune your monocultures. *laugh*

And this the guy who whines endlessly on alt.forestry that land owners

In article BqHxi.59$wr3.9@trndny04, (Joe) says...
Larry, what's your problem? You end up ridiculing the small number of
foresters who actually bother to participate here. The other 99.99%, who
live off the taxpayers or who simply feed wood raw material to mills, and
the hundreds of academics- don't bother to participate because there's no
way for them to control the dialogue, and they're too hooked into the party
line for open discussion. Rather than rant against those few of us who
actually earn a living doing real forestry in the private sector, where we
need to continually serve our clients well, or lose their "good will"- try
getting those others here and you'll have no luck. I've tried participating
in forums set up by the SAF and the Guild and others, and they're all
nothing but the same old tired party line- say anything against THEIR party
line, and they throw you out. Here, everyone enjoys full freedom of speech.
So, if you don't like what we say, why not just ignore that message.

I don't so much ridicule as despise, and that is only restricted to you
east coast weirdos who think you are god's gift to the people who
actually own the land and care for it. From where I sit, it looks like
you are a bunch of phony landscapers with a hypothetical axe to grind,
not real foresters at all. I would be fascinated to talk to some of
your ex-victims to find out how much "good will" you actually leave
behind you. Your contempt for the landowner is obvious. One of you is
so vicious that I actually killfiled a forester in a forestry news group
just so I wouldn't have to read his continual vitriol. As you
suggested, I normally ignore most of your trash talk, but this thread
was crossposted to other groups. I wouldn't want anyone to think that
you clowns are in any way representative of the forestry industry.

Fortunately, there are some real foresters who also frequent this
newsgroup.

You have a strange sense of values Kate. Let's revisit what your gallant

I've delete rec.gardens and alt.great-lakes. I suggest that the foresters
here always do the same and we'll get back to real forestry discussions. I
suggest that Mr. Tree Biologist do the same.

Joe

Hey Joe!

As usual you speak the language of us grunt foresters who actually
earn their own way in the woods doing the right thing rather than
suckin' off the taxpayer's tit like Caldwell does.
It is true that MA is a small state with only about 3 million acres of
forest land with 25% in public ownership. So we have about 2.2 million
acres of private land here. If a private sector consulting forester
needs at least 10,000 acres to make a go of it, then theoretically
there could be room for about 220 consulting foresters here. However,
there are only about 30 of us in the whole state and only about 15% of
private forest land is managed to any reasonable standard. So what
happened? The MA forest bureaucracy has spent hundreds of millions of
dollars "promoting" good forestry in the last 1/2 century but the
legacy that has been left is that the vast majority of private forest
land has been plundered by the timber thieves and its future forest
productivity mortgaged. The timber thieves got rich and the forest
bureaucrats, who issued the permits for this forest destruction, grew
fat and now waddle around the woods with their pot bellies hanging
over their belts. Consulting foresters have been squeezed out.
Multiply this by all 50 states to understand that this problem is
national in scope. I've heard tales of destruction from consulting
foresters all over the country. From Maine to NY down to Virginia,
West Virginia, up to the Lake States and beyond. It is a tale of
forest destruction aided and abetted by corrupt and dysfunctional
forest bureaucracies across the country.
So Larry boy I know where you hail from the majority of forest land is
owned by the Feds. Perhaps you don't believe in private ownership at
all. Well SAF did have it right once. They called you all the "Forest
Soviet".

We're making progress here in MA and when we win, perhaps we can be a
model for other states. In May, I testified for one of our bills and
next month I'll testify for another bill we filed. The concept is
simple: all commercial timber harvesting will be prescribed and
supervised by Licensed Foresters and all timber harvests will be for
good silviculture. We will then have the same rights as other
professions and then we can begin the massive job of forest
restoration on private land that the corrupt forest bureaucracy
allowed to be destroyed. Then I will go to UMass and tell the forestry
students that they don't have to wish to be a burro when they graduate
because there will lots of business opportunities for consultants. We
can grow from 30 to at least a hundred! The concept is simple. We
should be growing private sector forestry businesses rather than pot-
bellied burro parasites.

Mike

PS: Yeah you're right Joe, the burros get upset when they can't
control the dialogue. They only believe in "burro speech". Well I'll
continue to take names and kick ass and I really don't give a flyin'
fu** who likes it or who doesn't like it.
