I've had this epidendrum for several years (lost the label, don't know the
name) it was in bloom when purchased with small redish flowers. It has never
bloomed since.

It seems I have tried every variable. I have split it apart and growing some
in different locations, some with more sun than others. Varying amounts of
water, etc.

We're going on 6 years now with no bloom. What's the secret? Anybody got any
ideas?

I presume it's a reed-stem Epidendrum. If so, put it where it gets
enough morning and afternoon (not mid-day sun) light that the leaves
become light green. Feed it a balanced or high nitrogen fertilizer.

I have both Epidendrums and Encyclia's in bloom now , to me there isnt a
trick
mine bloom when they want too , for me patience is the main thing, I have a
couple that havent spiked for about 3 years now . I hope they will bloom
this summer ....we shall see

So how would I know if it's a "reed-stem Epidendrum"?

The leaves are light green, but it gets difused mid-day sun, no morning sun
and very little afternoon sun. I have a West-facing backyard. I could get
good morning sun if I moved it to the front of the house in the morning. Do
you think that's worth it? and should I move it back and forth?

Thanks for the response, Todd. I generally figure if I don't have a spike
for three years, there's a problem. I'm on about five or six now with
these things, so I know there's a problem. My Cats, Dendrobiums, and
Vandas bloom every year, but this Epidendrium hasn't bloomed.

Come to think of it, since I moved into this new house (2 years ago), my
Oncidiums haven't bloomed. I Wonder what's up.

My West-facing backyard gets NO morning sun. Could this be a problem?

I live in West Palm Beach and mine sits in the middle of my rock garden with
full sun all year long. It is now about 8-10 feet around and has hundred of
blooms. This year it started blooming around the Super Bowl and is still
blooming almost neverending with seed pods everywhere. I guess the bees are
very busy! It sits in the middle of my garden surrounded by other flowers.
I hardly ever water it and only fertilize when I fertilize the rest of the
garden with an all purpose granular fertilizer, sometimes I use milorganite.

GMc, If you search using Google & select Images, you will see several types
on Epi's.
You could try moving it, but do it before it gets too hot. You could also
try
some bloom boosting type fertilizer.
