Hey folks,

Enough with this labrador monopoly, us feline lovers should fight back ;-)

Some pics on this page (with thumbnails) :

Warning for modem users: pics are rather large.

IMHO, the best one I ever did was:

http://www.wide-o.net/summerpond2003/PICT0011.html

Almost looks like an alien !

Enjoy :-)

Cheers,

Theo

PS: amazing to find out that all of my 4 cats are pretty scared of the fish
!

Well, we suppose cats can guard ponds too...
we just wish they wouldn't call us names when they walk on the top of our
fence!

LOL

I have to admit I never see labradors on our fence swearing at me :-)

Oh, and the cats are great for heron control too. When they see one they
just... erm... run inside.

Darn ;-)

Theo, what wonderful pictures! Your pond has filled in nicely, and the fish
look so, well, well-fed! I love RedCarp! Your camera must be very fast: by
the time mine clicks - the whole frame has changed G! The pond must give
you a lot of pleasure.

So the feline lovers fight back with a picture of a cat scared by fish,
eh? ;-) Nice bridge by the way.

Shhhhhh, don't tell everyone! They are aliens, here to take over the
world. They're just starting with a few, small backyard ponds, then
moving up to larger and larger accommodations as the PORGers fall under
their hypnotic guidance (just one more pond -- build it and they will
come!). Tee hee hee! Great picture!!! what kind / model of camera are
you using?

Admittedly, Theo took great pictures of a great set-up, but let's not
dismiss the photo ops for those of us with Labs & semi-labs: in my own
case, I offer for your perusal 1 Lab/Cocker Spaniel combo -- throw the
ball far enough and you'll never see her again......or 1 Chessie/Lab combo
(note: we know her mother was a Chessie, but her dad may have been a
Greyhound, I think)

As to the photo ops for the above -- after you tire of the "dog retrieves
tennis ball from pond after drinking from fountain," I admit that the photo
ops dwindle to:

"dog barks at fish to give tennis ball back"

"dog alarmed by frog"

Sigh...... as Dave Barry says, "I am not making this stuff up."

Would someone please remind me why I have wildlife *other* than fish?
Pleeeeeeeze?

toad calls) Lurie

Yeah, I think I need to work on my strategy a bit, I'm not sure that I
outgunned K30a LOL ;-)

I think I just found their antennas ! Mind you, they will probably have to
swim upside down to contact the mothership.

I bought a Minolta DiMage 7i last year. It's what is fashionably called a
"prosumer" camera, non-pro range (not an SLR), but as good as it gets for a
consumer type of camera. It can do pictures, videos (1 minute) and sounds
(you can record a soundbite with your pictures), 5 megapixels etc etc...
These pictures are actually made with a lower quality setting (as I like to
put pictures up on the web).

Not cheap at all (I guess about 800 USD) but very recommended if you love
taking pond or cat pics. I think it is replaced by the DiMage 7HI now.

Thanks Lee.

I just point the camera when there are no fish in the frame, then by the
time it clicks, hopla ;-)

Lots of pleasure... you can say that again. It is killing my social life,
as I tend to be around the pond as much as I can. I love studying their
behaviour (they each develop their own very distinct character), am amazed
by the "copycat" group behaviour (a new fish nibbled at my fingers after 1
day in the pond, just because it saw the big ones do it as well, the koi
also copy golden orfe behaviour and vice versa.).

My DW first thought "oh no, another hobby" and wasn't convinced she liked
fish 5 years ago... now her hightlight of the day is putting her feet into
the water (I give her a salt-dip first LOL) and have all the fish swim
"against" her.

Very addictive :-)

Thanks folks, appreciate it ! :-) Will not reply to each post, but don't
take that as rude please, just don't want to hog the NG.

Forgot to say that on this pic
http://www.wide-o.net/summerpond2003/PICT0003.html (top centre) you can see
how the pectoral fin of a wounded koi I bought is growing back like nothing
happened. Only thing missing is the color, but I'm told that might come
back too.

My cats also took a shining to the pond initially, but the frogs now scare
them away!

A quick pic of the 2 older cats debating whether the frog is hiding nearby
or not...
