Default Lotus not growing arial leaves--

Hi All;

I kept my Lotus over Winter in our un-heated garage, giving it an occasional
watering. As Spring approached, I began to put it outside and it started to
grow. We put it in our Lotus bog and it has had many leaves that lay on the
water, but no arial leaves.
What did I do wrong? I fertilized it real heavy when we put it in the Lotus
bog.

Thanks--

Hi Joan,

Where are you located? In some locations it can still be early days for lotus.

Hi Joan,

I should qualify my answer so you know who
you are dealing with.... I'm good at doing in lotus.
And the last time it was having it out in a fairly unprotected area during a
colder than normal spring for us (zone 7a). And I killed one during an
unexpected cold snap in October. The other one I did in, well I'm not sure how
I did it in but it was deader than a doornail all the same.
Now you'll read on rec.ponds that lotus grow like weeds and people are
overflowing with them. Personally I think it is all a plot to convince me that
I'm hopeless when it comes to lotus.

Here in Pa also. I find mine only sent up aerials in the hotter days....hasn't
been overly hot here. I only have three right now, my sister's is filled with
aerials, but she has hers in full sun.

In October here, or even late september, my lotus dies off.....I sink it to the
bottom of the pond, 2.5 feet or so, and raise it back up in the spring....if
you have floaters, eventually you'll get the aerials.

I have no blooms yet, but several aerials. This year the frogs are trashing
the leaves, so none of them look very nice. Yesterday an aerial came up
under floating leaf and pierced it. LOL.

At least yours are alive. Mine died over this past winter for some reason.
They did well for several years. I am now lotusless. :-(
