Default what is the MOST toxic plant?

and still is, from the point of view of the tobacco plant itself.

;-)

How does one use it or what does one do with the tobacco to use it?

I've just had a thought, could it be bats as they do fly around

outside
my bedroom window at night and I have taken to closing it as I am
scared of them.

Bats are almost silent. The only noise you'd hear would be the slight
wing flapping noises if they were in the same room as you were.

It used to be used as an insecticide in the old days but these days

is
considered too toxic in mammals (and can harbour tobacco mosaic

virus -
which will infect many other plants)..

You can extract LD50 of nicotine from a couple of cigarettes with

the
right solvents. On toxicological grounds you would not sell tobacco

to
the general public if it was discovered today.

Actually it (supposedly) still can be used as poison. I've come
across organic gardeners who soaked butts and used the resultant
straind off liquid as a poison spray.

That sort of kitchen sink chemistry is downright dangerous. Nicotine
can be lethal to people as well as insects. Natural deadly poisons are
ever bit as dangerous as synthetic ones. In this particular instance
you can come unstuck by following Organic(TM) nicotine insecticide
recipes on the web.

I do know that it's supposedly not advisable to smoke whilst doing
things around one's tomatoes because of the mosaic virus.

Orchid growers get particularly excercised about people smoking in
their greenhouse. I don't know if it is urban legend or not that TMV
can spread that way.

Martin Brown

You've been given a whole list of toxic plants but seemingly this is
not enough for you. You've also been asked why you want to know. If
we knew why you wanted to know, or even which plants you regularly
come across then it MAY be easier to answer you.

You aren't prepared to answer the questions that posters here have put
to you but yet you expect others here to give up their own time to
help you. I suggest you try a library or google.

If your tutor tells you the answer, you will let us know?

and dont say its the castor bean because yew is more toxic but at a
slower rare of death

So how are you defining toxic? If not speed of death, then presumably
amount of substance required to cause death? And is that the amount of
the poisonous substance itself that is required to cause death, or the
amount of plant matter required? If the latter, the question should also
ask you to specify which part of the plant - I doubt whether roots,
bark, leaves, seeds of yew have exactly the same toxicity in terms of
what weight you need to eat to ensure death, and the arils are not
considered poisonous.

You need to go back to your tutor and chastise him for an imprecise
question ;-)

Luke, we obviously aren't up to the standard you expect to do your
homework for you.

I've just checked google groups and this thread has had 66 posts from
22 different authors. One of those authors would be you so that makes
21 different people who have posted. Most of those authors have had
suggestions on which plants they believe are the most poisonous.

You said that you are "doing a couse on poisonous plants and i need to
know the most poisonous plant" sic.

Most of us here would have done our own homework knowing exactly what
the question was, and thus would have tailored our answer to meet the
specific question asked. You've never given us the question or
explained what you really want, just these vague one-liners where you
snip the previous message and we are left guessing as to who you may
be replying to.

You've been given lots of replys so it's either time you went off and
did some research of your own or give us the exact question you have
been asked so that we have a better idea of what it is you want to
know. I am getting cross with your posts on 2 accounts. I've always
done my own homework and also some to help others who I know had
difficulty but I have insisted that where others want help, they may
use my research but will write it up in their own words (the lecturers
can always tell it's not their work if they don't) and secondly that
thtey use my help to learn how to do their own research. Post the
question so we know what you want or go to a library.

Have you thought of asking a Toxocologist? I don't know where you live
but try the University closest to you or you could try the Medical
School in your area. If you haven't got one, email me and I will give
you the telephone number of a colleague who will be able to point you
in the right direction.

Most poisonous to whom. Cats, birds, dogs, etc??
If the question is referring to humans then you already have sufficient data
from previous posts to write a half decent essay. Hint --toxicity is worked
on an LD 50 model. One advantage of being clinically obese is that it takes
more poison to kill a fat person :-)
