I *told* Ray we should have a pony and a donkey for the grandchildren. ;-) Is that a fair swop? I think so. Have grandchild, willing to swap for pony and trap. I don't believe you. Not for a millisecond. Of course, the parents would have to agree. Catch 'em after a bad night and you never know! They have had bad nights ever since he was born. ATM I guess they'd take the pony and trap and get down to making another one. Babies haven't read the books. My youngest grandchild went out like a light every night once her parents were persuaded to give her a tiny bit of solid food, rather than just milk. Nobody told *her* she shouldn't have it, so she loved it. ;-) Of course, then she started teething....... -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon (remove weeds from address) 'We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.' |

I knew a Polish woman who chewed sauerkraut and then fed it to her baby. I don't know if that is the norm in Poland. I don't know about Poland specifically but it was the norm to chew food and give it to babies, long before baby mush was invented in sterile jars! They haven't thought of teething yet - luckily :-) No, this one's a bit precocious on that and making heavy weather of it. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon (remove weeds from address) 'We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.' |

Unhappily, yes! But if it's pre-chewed and thus partially digested, perhaps it rids the sauerkraut of some of its more explosive properties. They *must* have worked that out over the years or there would be generations of agonised babies. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon (remove weeds from address) 'We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.' |

"Martin" wrote: snip My son has an agonised baby without feeding it sauerkraut. Maybe a pre-chewed Indian take away is the solution, after all isn't that what Indian babies are fed? Dummies work well on colicky babies. I've no idea why but the sucking seems to relieve them. I suspect Indian babies are fed on 'cooked at home' not 'take away' .;-) For those who believe you can't grow edible sweet corn in Northern Europe for the nth year running we have a bumper crop. They are so much better than supermarket ones. I didn't realise it was thought you couldn't grow it here. Is it a totally different strain to that grown for cattle fodder? -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon (remove weeds from address) 'We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.' |
