Default Help needed to identify plant

I recently acquired a potted plant but I was not told what it was. When I got it, it had very small white flowers on it which were fragrant. These have now died off (they can just about be seen in the attached image). The leaves/stems have no scent and the stems are fairly hard and stick-like. The older stems at the base have turned yellow.
I just wondered if anyone could tell me what it is and also give some care advice... It appears to be dying off, and I am unsure if it will come back next year etc....

a picture of the plant can be found at the following link:

Thanks!

The foliage looks very similar to penstemon http://tinyurl.com/6z6wcn
which is mainly an outdoor plant. What do you think? I would know if I
could see the flowers properly.

I thought the leaves look like hyssop but not with white flowers of
course.

The flowers aren't very clear

So did I, but there are plenty of similar labiates with white flowers
(e.g. winter savory). But that doesn't match scented flowers and
scentless leaves.

Nick.,

I am digressing here, but have you any idea why my first reply to this
post i.e."The foliage looks very similar to penstemon
http://tinyurl.com/6z6wcn
which is mainly an outdoor plant. What do you think? I would know if I
could see the flowers properly" is not visible to me on this thread
while my second reply i.e. "Have a peep at this:
http://tinyurl.com/5cq54d" is visible. I get this problem from time to
time and this leads me to think that my message has not been delivered,
only to find it contained in someone else's reply, such as in this case.
Hope that makes sense.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.

They're visible to me. Usenet is like that. I could explain in a fair
amount of detail, but I doubt that you are interested in the minutiae.
Don't think of it as being like mailing lists - it isn't. Messages
get through erratically, often out of sequence, and occasionally get
completelt lost or ar repeated months later. And not all readers
will see all messages.

Regards,
Nick Maclaren.

Thanks Nick. That helps a lot as I was quite confused as to what was
actually happening.

hey guys thanks for the debate.. somebody on another forum has correctly identified it as Gypsophila repens where the image i googled matches the flowers my plant had before they died off...
it is an outside plant but i have no garden, it is happily sitting on my balcony with a decent sized pot in a sunny spot..
any other tips for caring for a gypsophilia?

I thought it looked rather like the white form of Lithospermum diffusum, but
I don't think that has scent.

Yes, I've grown them myself (can't remember the name) and they're very
pretty. However, the leaves in the picture we saw were textured like
Lithospermum, but I don't think it can be. Gypsohila seems to have been
accepted, and it *does* have scent.
