Hello can you help

My garden is being decimated by an animal that is digging holes everywhere

Holes are appearing in the lawn and in the flower beds and veg. plot

Also freshly planted plants are being uprooted and tossed to one side

I am quite sure that cats and dogs are not responsible

My garden is part of open farmland and cannot be fenced

There are magpies, crows ,doves, foxes, badgers, even rats in the area

TIA .........................Leslie

Sounds like a mole to me. Your best hope is that it will move on to
somewhere else.

I'd suggest a squirrel.

If the holes are about 12 inches across with a slight mound then definately
a mole, if smaller, about 3 to 5 inches then most likely a badger .
But when inspecting the hole, if overground animal the hole will have a
slight depression where the soil has been pulled out, if a Mole, the
animal comes up from underground and pushes the soil upwards forming a
raised mound.
Do let us know what you find.
Regards
Cineman

You've lost 10% of it?

Holes are appearing in the lawn and in the flower beds and veg. plot

Also freshly planted plants are being uprooted and tossed to one side

I am quite sure that cats and dogs are not responsible

It would help if you could describe the damage more precisely. With what
has been provided, it just isn't possible to make even a guess.

When you say "holes", can you be a little more specific?

The size of holes that the pest is leaving

These are up to 4" deep and can spread from 2" to 5" deep with the soil
dragged to one side the hole is definately dug from the top

Sorry I am still having trouble picturing these holes. I had assumed
the holes were dug from the top, you could have told easily if they
were caused by moles. Am I right in assuming the holes are ovoid with
the soil at one narrow end and a scratched or scraped appearance? Claw
marks?
