I have 2 pots with lilies in next to each other. One pot is fine the other
however is having its leaves chewed. Ive found the culprit...it looks like a
red woodlice .I cant find it in any of my gardening books...does anyone know
what it might be and what I can do

Don't worry, when they have eaten all those ones they will move over to the
others. Watch for the larvae they cover themselves in their own excreta and
look like bird droppings. However the fact that they are often under the
leaves is a giveaway as will be the destroyed foliage.

And when they've finished the lilies they'll move onto the fritillarias!

Similar story here, found 4 or 5 of them several months ago, and not found
any since, but one set of flowers (white with pink edging, most recently
bought, not the ones that have been in the ground for up to a year) is
really badly munched. They were munched before the flowers opened.
As of yet, no munching on the others (which are elsewhere in the garden)

Spray them all asap in the hope you will save them. Next year spray them all
as a matter of course as soon as you see one insect.
Or IME give up trying to grow them.

What do you spray them with? I won't use generic insecticide, and as far as
I know, there isn't anything that specifically targets lily beetle.

Incidentally, I've never seen them hit the day lily (I don't know if day
lilies are actually botanically lilies or some other species, I've never got
round to investigating them as they've never given me any trouble so far)

They were in the family Liliaceae, but are now considered to be
Hemerocallidaceae.

I use Provado Ultimate Bug Killer (you can get it in aerosol form if
you're wealthy but it's also around in a normal trigger gun for a lot
less). I spray in the late evening when bees and the like have gone to
bed. Once it dries, it's systemic and so only kills the beetles and
their grubs as they munch the leaves. Repeat spray abourt a month
later.

Yes, Provado Ultimate Bug Killer in the aerosol can (imidacloprid +
methiocarb) is the only thing which works consistently against lily beetle.
Note that all the other Provado Ultimate products - no matter how similar
the containers look - contain only imidacloprid and are pretty ineffective
against lily beetle.

However, I agree with Bob. Grow something else that the lily beetle is not
attracted to.
