Will this rain never stop?
Yesterday we ended up with 0.4 inches and today we are forecast for
heavy rain for several hours.
I want to get out and start planting the dahlias, a job that will last
me 2 to 3 weeks.

You should be so lucky.

Drizzle here this morning to start with but now clearing.

Water butts going down again.

Tiny tiny bit of drizzle this morning. Still sent hte kids to school
without coats it was so unwet. Clouds looked angry, but I suspect they are
just teasing.

Water butts going down again.

I emptied a bath load of water into mine yesterday and it's almost all gone
already. I'm getting concerned about the build up of soap in the water, I'm
not sure how many times I can do it without it becoming a problem. Although
the greenhouse currently smells very nice. I may have to stop using bubble
bath.

Just blow some of it over here please! We've had no more than a
damping.

Still no rain here. There has been less than one inch of rain in three
months!

Had enough light drizzle here to dampen the ground, the most we've had
for a couple of weeks. My wife had been shopping in the local town,
about 4 miles away, came back soaked, it was raining buckets there.
Obviously luck as to what you get.

Not very long ago people in South Wales were complaining about a drought. You should be grateful for this generous rehydration of your soil. We could do with a persistent wet spell where I am. It is so dry that when we had half an inch of rain overnight about 10 days ago, when I came to dig a hole about two days after that rain, the ground was already dry as dust again.

Ouch! I thought things were bad here.
I've a keen interest in recording the rainfall he

Rainfall in mm

13/03/2011 3
14/03/2011 3
31/03/2011 6
13/04/2011 2
29/04/2011 1
02/05/2011 3
07/05/2011 2
08/05/2011 1

However, rainfall of only 1, 2 or 3 mm is of no benefit to the garden as
it just wets the foliage and nothing reaches the roots. A little sun or
light breeze and it evaporates and is gone again.

I've emptied the well twice now irrigating the garden. Sooner or later
it won't recover then my vegetables will stop growing, run to seed or die.

The only saving grace here is that being near the River Thames we have a
high water table, if we were on high ground I think we might just give up
this season.

The Rhine is the lowest it has been since 1922.
The lack of rain in The Netherlands is causing the North Sea canal to
become saline.

Here in Suffolk it is so dry that they are talking of banning the farmers
from extracting water from the rivers for irrigation.

Someone told Ray they'd seen a frost in part of Suffolk just last week, I
believe.

No frost or rain here on the South East Coast of the Isle of Wight, just
wall to wall sunshine, but then we have just got the sunshine record :-)))

AND a record number of clean beaches as well :-))

Yes, there was a light frost - caught the tops of our early potatoes. Not a
lot of damage and they are recovering.

I have an automated raingauge too, and I'm just outside the M25 to the NW of London. The Chilterns usually attract a little more rain than some other places in the region. But these things are very variable, since patches of heavy rain are often localised. I have had about an inch since February, but nearly all of that came in three falls, the largest 13mm about 10 days ago. I can quite believe that someone not very far away could by chance have largely missed all of them. I had the experience in the summer of 2003 of missing every summer downpour, though a couple hit other parts of the modest Amersham urban area I live on the edge of. One day I drove through flooded roads in torrential rain around Chesham/Amersham, and arrived home to find the ground completely dry for the last 400 yards.
