Default who's getting snow?

It's currently pounding down here. Actually quite a welcome change after
the heavy freezing rain of earlier. There are 1 inch icicles hanging off
of all the buds, some of these are pretty advanced too.

I sprayed copper on all the maples as a precaution yesterday, hopefully
it will help a little.

We had a scattering overnight which has disappeared and then a few
flakes this morning. Our worst enemy at the moment is a bitter
easterly which is blowing fiercely. But on the lunchtime news, Jersey
and Guernsey airports are shut with snow and they've had a blizzard
which is expected to continue for quite a while yet.

Here at the sunny end of Swansea bay it has just started to let loose a
few flakes of snow, but that may be warmer than the icy wind we have had
all morning. really nice to be working out in.
I kept expecting to see a couple of Brass monkeys, but the birds seem to
be enjoying it.

Been snowing a bit on and off all morning here, not settling though.

Only just breezy here too, though it is a nasty north-east wind.

Seems to have gone back to a mixture of sleet and snow here, I'm watching
the ice stalactites growing off the Cornus contraversa branches outside
my office window. Yuk. But at least I don't have to drive anywhere.

Snow and ice pellets on and off since last night.

Covers the ground then clears away, then more comes.

The temperature see saws between +2 and -2, sometimes over a very short
time.

At the moment there is snow on the grass but not on the road.

Outside temperature is -1.6C.

Not looking good for the rest of the week either.
Met Office has yellow snow warnings until the middle of Thursday for East
Anglia.

We are predicted to be getting the worst of it, I think, because the wind
is coming in from the NE, although the worst weather is over the channel
at the moment according to the radar.

Cheers

Well our snow flurries lasted about 10 mins, but there is still quite a
healthy breeze blowing and the temp is still at freezing point, so it
feels sub Arctic and I've had to work outside for about 3 hours, I now
feel a definite kinship with the Brass monkeys.

David, 'Brass Monkeys' had nothing to do with gardening ;-)

I know, the Monkeys were the things that held the cannon balls and when
it was really cold they contracted and the balls fell off, but that
doesn't paint the same picture.

I like to use the expression 'Freeze the balls off a brass bedstead'. You
can use that in front of your maiden aunt ;-)

It's a myth, anyway, because the difference in the coefficient of
expansion of iron and brass isn't enough to cause that effect.
Nobody knows how that saying originated.

Nick Maclaren.
