As far as I can see, it isn't sealed up so that it can't be

designed to break when dismantled.

Perhaps a blast with WD 40 would get in where anything else might not !
Do you have any idea which part is squeeking?

Not a clue.

Mine is making squeaking noises, and I suspect that it needs some
maintenance. Does anyone know anything about this? I could just
try taking it apart and looking, but I don't want to knacker it
unnecessarily. It's done a far amount of shredding by modern
domestic standards.

Nick Maclaren.

Don't do what I did and wait! mine caught fire and is no more. its
replacement although supposedly the same model is nowhere near as good and I
wish now I had replaced the motor in the old one.

I suspect you may find that the solid drum is dry at one of its ends, should
have a lot of grease in there.

It was. I have fixed it, and it was a right b*gg*r! What happens
when steel is adacent to aluminium, and both are exposed to damp?

Is everything OK now? if so - well done.

Mr. Galvani eats both of them; the aluminium faster?

How did you guess? He also bonds them together with the white
growth that he leaves from the aluminium he has eaten.

Did you consider asking Bosch about it?

Yes, but my experience of doing that is very negative. I actually
went across to the local lawnmower people, and one of the mechanics
(and I do mean that, not a salesdroid) told me roughly what to do.
It would have been fairly simple if it had not been corroded solid.
A rubber hammer job! Except for one aspect.

When putting it back together, you need to relax the tightening
knob, and retighten as from scratch. Not a big deal, but not
obvious.

Nick Maclaren.
