Re Horse Manure
In article ,
writes Surely it is time that the number of horses in this country was limited - before this island sinks under the weight of this unwanted horseshit. Perhaps the consumption of horse meat should be encouraged. I hope you weren't serious. We have much bigger waste problems than that. At least horse shit is biodegradable. Start by cutting down on unnecessary packaging, and by getting away from the idea that things should be replaced because they are no longer fashionable, rather than no longer serviceable. -- Kay Easton Edward's earthworm page: http://www.scarboro.demon.co.uk/edward/index.htm |

He doesn't say he has a problem himself. No, he doesn't. He suggests that as a society we should cut down on horses to limit the amount of manure. I'm suggesting that if as a country we want to decrease our waste problem, other things contribute far more. It's hard to cut down on unnecessary packaging, unless you package things yourself. But you can buy loose veg not packaged ones, refuse the offered plastic carrier bags, lobby your MP. If enough people did, things might change. Pretty unlikely. But if anyone is interested in a lost cause, that's a more useful one than trying to restrict the number of horses in the country. I read in today's web IoS http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/thi...p?story=438742 that Scouts have abolished camp fires and cooking on wood fuelled fires in favour of cooking using butane for environmental reasons. Fuzzy thinking or what? Wood is a renewable energy resource. Like many others, I only belonged to the Scouts for the pleasures of camping and legalised pyromania. Singing Ging Gang Gooley around a Camping Gaz burner isn't going to do much for Scouting. I find it hard to believe sing ging gang gooley around *anything* dose much for scouting amongst today's kids ;-) -- Kay Easton Edward's earthworm page: http://www.scarboro.demon.co.uk/edward/index.htm |

From my children I've heard 'Jingle bells, batman smells....' and one about the Teletubbies, the sentiments of which I entirely approve. I can see that you might be depressed that the culture being celebrated in these songs is fast food and poor quality TV, but the fact that children are still making up and singing their own playground songs is in my view something to celebrate. -- Kay Easton Edward's earthworm page: http://www.scarboro.demon.co.uk/edward/index.htm |

Just been to an old fiend's Coming of Age party. That's retirement age. Present were most of our old Rover Crew as well as the Rover Scout Leader. I think our only losses have been due to accidents - no natural causes - so we must have all been doing something right.
