Default Cleaning Bird Mess Off Concrete - How ?

Okay,

I've got a concrete drive which gets marked badly at this time of year by
starlings who are eating berries and/or blackcurrants and leaving purple
marks everywhere.

I have tried scrubbing the concrete which brings up the original colour of
the concrete but the bird mess mark remains.

Any advice on what household cleaner or chemical would help remove these
stains ?

Thanks.

Mike.

The best way out of such a situation is to be truly thankful to the birds.
The remnants of the bird dung will make a nice fertilised patch on the
concrete for a lichen to colonise.

Precisely.
I have managed to start quite a few lichen spots just where I wanted them
this way on my garden walls. It is a very slow business.

I have this picture of you picking and eating the berries off of nearby
trees, waiting the required period and then squating over your wall.

Can't really explain why though.

And why not?
Incidentally, that was never mentioned as a way of stopping the youngsters
sitting on the wall of one of the urglers which was discussed in great
detail some time ago.

Try oxyclean. I think that's how you spell it. It'll be with the laundry
cleaners. I got mine in Sainsbury's. Mix with water and spray or pour on and
then try brushing whilst rinsing off with some clean water. I've used it on
some very bad stains and it's worked like magic. (I had a little accident with
a bag of frozen blackcurrants left to thaw on the stairs (carpet) overnight).

Hope this helps.

Coca-cola (or pepsi) - I've used it to remove oil stains from concrete
so I'd expect it to work on most things.

Clean the worst of the mess off with a hose or brush, then apply the
cola. Keep the area well wetted with cola and work backwards and
forwards over the area with a stiff brush. When finished, rinse of well
with a hose.

Also works well in cleaning up corroded metal - and rots teeth!

Strong solution household bleach leave for 30m minutes then hose off ---
note this also an effective weed & mosskiller so use with care near plants

Does it kill the weeds by being absorbed into the leaves, or via the roots?
Would it be bad for plants other than weeds if some of the bleach leaches
into the soil?
I have a vast amount of moss on all my garden walls, and on a number of
patches on the soil in the beds. At present the moss is winning the batle,
and I would be interested in the bleach approach if I knew that it would not
be harmful to the desired plants.

Compounds that contain chlorine are pretty toxic to all life, but it
works mostly on the leaf, in the soil it tends to get washed out very
quickly by rainfall.
Bleach is als go for dealing with industrial grime on concrete.
The thin household bleaches are the best to use.

My feeling is that you have given two cheers for bleach. On balance I am
still scared to use it near desirable plants.

My apologies for causing you to waste your extremely valuable time reading a
single coherent piece of the thread, all of it was relevant to my humble
little contribution.
I snip only parts of a conversation which have become irrelevant.
By this criterion, I ought to have snipped yours, but i will save myself the
trouble.
