Mail order vegetable plants??? If so, where?
Hi,
I am trying to be a little more organised this year :-) In any one year I may grow four or five vegtetable plants in tubs on the patio. Last year there were a pepper, a chilli, and two cherry tomatoes. I find it irritating (though logically it shouldn't be) to buy a complete packet of seeds to grow one or two plants. Last year I just bought two cherry tomato plants at a local farmers market, and a chilli and pepper plant at Homebase. This costs in about the same as buying three packets of seed and growing your own, especially with an allowance for the time and trouble geting the seedlings going. Commercially grown plants tend to be sturdier than my attempts, mainly I think due to them being grown in a heated greenhouse with plenty of light, as opposed to my windowsill/sun room attempts. However you don't get to choose the variety; in the case of Homebase you don't even get told the variety. So what I would like to do is order plants of a chosen variety from a nursery (or nurseries) over the Internet and have them delivered at the correct time for planting them outside. However Google (especially with all these subsidiary search sites which crowd the top of the list and just echo your search and pretend they can give you answers) is proving especially unhelpful. I can find specialist plant firms, and a nice Mr Fothergills site for seeds, but nobody doing mail order vegetable plants. Anyone found a good place to do this, or should I bite the bullet and get seeds, resign myself to not using most of them, and improve my propogation arrangements? TIA Dave R -- |
