At the test a couple of years ago, my car was getting low on Tyre tread and I asked the same question BEFORE I booked the car in. As a matter of satisfaction to myself, I fitted new tyres all round :-)) On a trye question. What are people's views on retreads and their use on Motorways? I understand any given remould has a safe maximum speed rating, though -- some corner of my memory is trying to tell me that it's even marked on the tire, but I wouldn't affirm to it. |

Although this not an area of my expertise I can say that round here no one seems to sell remoulds on the basis that cheap new budget tyres are more cost effective |

I understand any given remould has a safe maximum speed rating, though -- some corner of my memory is trying to tell me that it's even marked on the tire, but I wouldn't affirm to it. I think the speed is on the side of new tyres, therefore as a remould only redoes the tread bit (I think) the old speed advice would be null and void. As a matter of interest what do you term as 'high speed' work? Long stretches of Motorway with Autocruise set as opposed to a quick burst to overtake and then back to 50 ish? The former; but I'd still only use them for local work, if at all. This may be a superstition. -- Mike. |

A remould takes an old tyre and "remoulds" it including the lettering on the sidewalls. There would be allsorts of fuss from the orginal brand makers if their name was left on the side... I did think about remoulds for my car as new cost around £100/corner and remoulds about £50 but I do a fair bit of long distance motorway cruising and decided against them. -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |
