Default Mowing estimate needed

Hi All

Can anyone give me a rough estimate as to how much a gardener/handyman
would charge for mowing a couple of small lawns (Maybe 20'x20' each)
and weeding a couple of 15' borders?

I can't get a sensible answer from anyone and I need to formulate a
rough budget.

Time yourself doing it as you would wish to have it done, then multiply by
£10.00 per hour. Then is that by the week/day/fortnight/month?? Are you
supplying the mower? or is your contractor?

Depends where the op is.

Decent contractors in SW london are £18-20 per hour.

Best advice is to get a couple along, specify the job & ask for estimate
hourly rate alone is not enough.
3 hrs & £10 = £30
1.5 hrs & 18 = £24

Also, "one off" rate will always be higher than "regular"

This is not directed at your specifically but I do so wish people would
say where they live! It makes a great difference to the advice given
re plants and re costs. Here our lawn mowing man charges about £12
per hour and uses his own equipment. I'm sure London and its environs
would be much more expensive.

They don't all have a business to advertise and tout for

O.K. - so questions about 'how much will it cost' aren't specific to
location?

Since Hillhouse don't do mail order I can't quite see how they benefit from
all this advertising you seem to think they are doing? And as far as I know
they do not offer any garden services such as mowing which was the original
question.
Your own answer was perfectly reasonable but so was observation it costs
different amounts in different places.

Same for my mum who lives Kent/London border.
A young lad trying to start a business comes once a week in summer.
Mum also has a very experienced gardener for more specialised work, who
charges £16/hour.

12 per hour? How the heck do you make a living at that price?
