Oh dear I know how you feel the same thing happened to mine. I put a few
support twigs in the ground with them, tied them up, gently of course and
they recovered well.

Last year my potatoes and broad beans lasted until July 2nd's downpour.
They're flat already.

A large part of my garden is under 6 inches of water atm.

What is really fun is the park opposite - the water is having trouble
with the clay, and is forming big bubbles under the turf (about 4ft
across and 6 inches high) which you can bounce on like a water bed :-)

We also have quarter of a mile of river that wasn't there two days ago.

No Mary, that was last year, it has been very neglected since then and
several things have died so it looks quite pathetic to me now. My rose
arch has been full of flowers but htey are all soggy and drooping now,
really sad.

The only good thing is that my water but is full again as I have had to
resort to the hose for a few weeks to prevent everything shrivelling to
death.

The front suffers most as being second one in on a terrace I can't get
the hose round to it and am unable to carry buckets of water.

It's only surface run-off. It'll seep away slowly.
We probably are higher than you, but we're in a local hollow in clay.

It's not threatening any houses, the road drains seems to be taking it,
and it's only about 12 inches deep at the deepest point. But quite
impressive!

I gather the A65 has been closed between Skipton and Settle - apparently
a landslip, not sure exactly where.

No, nothing to worry about - the river is at a lower level than us on
the other side of the road, and in fact is already drying up.
Although the garden is in a clay hollow, the house is at the highest
part and we are pretty immune from flooding. Cellar isn't even damp.

But isn't your back garden at a lower level to the house, does that
get flooded especially at the bottom end?

Yes, it was under 6 inches of water this morning. Soaking away steadily
now - it's mainly in the temporary 'pool' we dug to take draining from
the beds.

Do you get a lot of run-off from the Church onto your driveway?

Here in Norwich we had a lot of rain last night, it lulled me to sleep
battering against the windows. Today, a lot of the shingle on our
driveway, slightly uphill, is on the road. The lupins are prostrate,
the raspberries which are ready to eat, are all hanging forwards and
some of my pots which are planted up with summer bedding plants have
been flattened, I hope they will recover.

However, one bright side to it all is that, young shrubs that I moved
a month ago, have got another thorough soaking and my rhodos look as
if they are really enjoying the deluge.

It's very dark here now and I can smell rain, so it's time to open the
bedroom window half an inch so that I can listen to it.
