I believe that Clermont Ferrand is her closest town but that she lives
higher up and in a very snowy area. I can quite see why she won't be taking
part in the NYD flowering plants count! And speaking of which our Clematis
Napaulensis is in flower. It has very delicate greenish white bells with
long purple anthers and is easily overlooked because it's so subtle. And
it's scented! We have it growing up one pillar of a pergola on the Nursery
path and it's very pretty, IMO.

LOL you looking for a smack? Yes, we have had very heavy snowfall.
Clermont is the nearest City to us about 50 minutes down a tortuous
mountain. We are at altitude. You might find us if you look at St.
Germain or Vernet La Varenne?

I tried, without any success. A little bit too cold I guess. Professionals
have them under plastic tunnels. That's better in Charente Maritime.
And maybe also the fact I am in the vines. The ground is pretty poor.

I really doubt it, Judith. Do other Clematis go through winters safely? If

No, not at all. Our nearest neighbours have vineyard. We just are a garden
of 4 000 m² surrounded by vines and cereals fields.
As I've been living here for only 5 years, you can imagine that the garden
is just a meadow with about 100 new plants since we are there.

Quelle honneur... but which bit of the Dordogne? We have an ancient
cottage and a scrappy garden with a magnificent view, near Le Buisson de
Cadouin. Never go in winter, authentic 16thC draughts, but very
beautiful by about June!

I'm from Perigueux. I knew lots of people in Le Buisson de Cadoin. A
friend had bought the train station/shop and had turned it into a
grocery store/cafe. Other friends had bought several houses in the
village and they were a tight knit community. The last time I was
there my first born was just about 1 year old. He's now 19. I'm
visiting some friends in Champagne et Fontaine soon. I just can't wait
and even though I prefer being by the sea, sometimes I long for a
place like yours! Where's your draughty demeure?

Paleyrac, just above Le Buisson. Very nice people (very few English!)
but very few amenities in the village. On the other hand, with a local
market somewhere no more than ten minutes drive away every day, some
excellent supermarkets, good bakeries, the best foie gras in Perigord
and a wonderful local wine merchant all within easy reach, not to
mention the best collection of medieval churches and castles probably in
the world, we do OK. By the train station/shop, do you mean the Relais
des Voyageurs, a charming building that was taken over by some Dutch
people but seems to have failed already, or the Cafe de la Gare, which
is very very local and very very solid? We tend to patronise the Cafe
des Sports, ourselves!

But only in summer. I note the EDF is announcing a lot of jours rouges
these days (when the electricity costs ten times the usual price).

It was the Cafe de la Gare indeed. Very busy then but that was 20
years ago! I've got to contradict you as regard to the best foie gras
in Perigord - the best one is the one my aunty makes ) Paleyrac is
not yet a new English Colony then?! How vey lucky g

Depending on your contract. If you have a regular HP/HC contract you
pay the normal rates all the time, which are more expensive, but you
don't have to watch out for the journees rouges.
