[IBC] Mugo Pine
Iris,
The answer is maybe. If the tree has enough energy stores it may re-foliate in spring and live. If the tree is too weak it will just give up. I would not repot it in spring if it is that weak. Repot in early summer after needles harden off. Good luck. Jerry Meislik Whitefish Montana USA Zone 3-4 http://www.bonsaihunk.8m.com/ I have had a terrible time with those miniature mugo pines from Iseli. One problem is keeping them over the winter. In tiny pots, they dry out too eaily. I have another one now, 'Mops,' which is badly in need of repotting. I tried to watch it closely over the winter, but the needles are all dead. However, there is green under the bark and the buds are swelling and appear very much alive. It is now outdoors, except when it goes below freezing. Is this a flash in the pan, or can I expect the plant to survive if I am careful? When is the best time to repot it in Zone 5?
